I know its late but is anyone up who has a weird animal species that does something weird to show me

@astrobri.bsky.social
What on earth could that possibly feel like, if anything. Is it something where you wake up and go "goddamn my bones are small today" or is it something where you have to decide and then go hnnnnnng and start smushing them -
@jonny https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_longest-living_organisms, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Largest_organisms, then in terms of weird biologic processes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptobiosis, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apparent_death, or for magical superpowers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_organisms_named_after_the_Harry_Potter_series

Hell yes thank you -

what the fuckIt's one of the things that makes pigeons thrive in cities. They can eat a diet of cigarette butts and trash and filter out the worst parts when feeding their chicks.

I like imagining being in the middle of growing a huge flower and going you know what flowers are played out and the medium is stale, its time to make a big leaf.@jonny I would think that plant was fictional or at least exaggerated, but I met one in Edinburgh Botanic Gardens and can confirm it's real and smells powerfully bad: not just foul but *worrying*, like "I am not descended from animals that hung around in places that smelled like this, because those that did had no descendants."
I should correct myself about "alternates annually" - more like, it makes a leaf annually unless it thinks it can afford a flower.
Wonderfully weird life form, would approach with dread and nauseate myself again.

@jonny The platypus. The better question to ask of that animal is what doesn't it do weirdly

Rhizocephala is such an honor of a name to have in the Latinate species name space.the males are hyperparasites who inject themselves into a settled female and cease to exist as independent organisms through the degeneration of all tissues except the ones responsible for spermatogenesis.
I have read this sentence over and over again and can actively feel my ability to imagine fucked up forms of life growing as I do

Turing pattern phase shift from liney modality to speckled modality on the front part of thorax. Spectacular. To die for.
