#OTD 10 May 1907, My great-grandparents succumbed to a fad and named their newborn girls Ima and Ura. The twins joined their two older brothers on the farm of Thomas Merrill Allee and Laura Ann Pryor in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Sadly, Ura Maggie died at five weeks old of unknown causes. Ima Nora Allee grew to adulthood, moving with her parents to Colorado. She married twice, but had no children. Her second husband, Maxwell Hersinger, served as marshal, sheriff and coroner in Lake City, Colorado. For many years they owned and managed guest cabins which provided a lovely spot for family vacations.#genealogyhttps://www.gmcabins.com

#OTD 8 May 1905, Fayette "Fate" Franklin Allee was born near Marlow, Oklahoma. When he was eight years old, his entire life was changed when he was hit in the eye with a rock. Blinded in one eye and with damaged vision in the other, he was sent away to a school for the blind. Instead of becoming a farmer, he became a teacher and taught generations of blind students in Arizona. My mother, one of his math students, decided that he would make a great stepfather. #OTD 7 May 1792, Tobias Voßeler was born and baptized in Tuningen, Württemberg. He was the sixth of seven children born to my fourth-great-grandparents, Hans Jerg Voßeler and Anna née Voßeler. Tobias and his older sister, Christina, have birth and baptism records with a simple cross under their names, yet there is no death record. They likely died in the first few days of their lives. It is sad that their short lives didn't rate a mention in the death and burial records.#genealogy

#OTD 6 May 1866, Andrew Lafayette "Fate" Allee married Martha Elizabeth Grant, his cousin, in Saline County, Arkansas. The area had been devastated during the Civil War, with battlefield debris littering the area. The couple, with extended family, moved to Texas after the birth of their eldest son. Martha bore two more children, dying sometime before her 30th birthday. Fate, my great-great-grandfather, remarried in 1876. #OTD 4 May 1838, Thomas Voßeler was born in Tuningen, Württemberg, to Johann Jakob Voßeler and Maria Irion. He was the second of six children, with three dying young. Tragically, Maria died the same day as the birth and death of the youngest, when Thomas was six years old. The three surviving sons were orphaned, as their father had died a few months earlier. The family register shows that Thomas was confirmed in 1852. After that there is no further record of this cousin of my great-great-grandfather.#genealogy

#OTD 3 May 1857, Peter Gustaf Fröling was born in the parish of Östra Ryd, Östergötland, Sweden. He was the second of five children, with two sisters and two younger brothers. He was the first emigrant from his immediate family, traveling with other cousins in our extended family. He settled in Marquette County, Michigan, where, after working as a miner, he acquired a homestead. His brothers followed in his footsteps, joining him in Michigan. Peter died at age 47, suffering from pneumonia with emphysema. Was that due to his years as a miner? He was survived by a wife and seven children.#genealogy

#OTD 1 May 1828, James C Childress, 24, married Kizziah Fry, 19, in Madison County, Alabama. James was a farmer and sometime Justice of the Peace. The couple had ten children before James' death in the 1850's. Their oldest son, William, died tragically when he was thrown from a horse as a boy. One son and several daughters survived to adulthood. The Civil War tore the family apart. Two daughters, including my namesake, Elizabeth, fled to Illinois. Two daughters are lost in the records. The remaining family members migrated westward to Texas, where Kizziah died at about 67 years of age.#genealogy

#OTD 30 April 1843, Johannes Voßeler married Anna Katharina Irion in Tuningen, Württemberg, The couple already had two children, as they had a long wait to be married. Six more children were born in Württemberg, with four dying young. They also raised at least one nephew whose parents had died. They emigrated to the US in 1853, settling in western Missouri, where two more daughters were born. Their orphaned nephew was a cousin in my lines and their two oldest children gave sworn statements in support of his Civil War pension. The family is part of the cluster research for my Voßeler family.#genealogy

#OTD 28 April 1878, Emma Martini was born in Centralia, Illinois, to John J Martini and Catharine Vosseler, my great-grandmother's half-sister. Emma was the last of 10 children born to Catharine and her two husbands. Three of those children had died young. Emma was the only child to have an official birth certificate, as Illinois first mandated them that year. Emma and her two older sisters, Anna and Josephine, became milliners, opened their own business in St. Louis, then expanded into dry goods. None of them married. Emma and Anna died of pneumonia within days of each other in 1961.#genealogy

#OTD 25 April 1821, Measles claimed the life of Lena Stina Ekström, age 20, in the parish of Björsäter, Östergötland, Sweden. She was the oldest daughter of my third-great-grandfather and his first wife. Hers was the 13th death of the 14 in the parish during 1821. The epidemic appears to have started in January and ended in May. Most of the those who lost their lives to this horrid disease were infants and young children, but three were adults. Lena Stina worked and lived at a farm named Mulstad where an infant had died of measles just five weeks earlier. It is contagious and should not be making a comeback 200 years later.#genealogy

#OTD 21 April 1917, Joseph Bradford Knapp, 21, married Effie Arvilla Crispen, 20, in Berrien County, Michigan. They had two children during a brief and troubled marriage. After divorcing, they each remarried. Effie was not nice to Joe and had quite a temper. In my possession is a damaged photo of her mother, my great-grandmother. It was hanging up in a large bubble frame. Effie tore it down off the wall and threw it on the floor, destroying the frame and putting a crack across the photo.#genealogy

@HeatherRojo I think that your ancestors may have married in with some of my ancestors because those early Massachusetts settlements were not heavily populated.

@jswright61 It's a side effect of curiosity! I wanted to know why a girl named Precious Moore was living with my ancestor. Looking at probate files isn't something every genealogist does. They can be boring or can be rich in clues and context.
