#OTD 8 May 1905, Fayette "Fate" Franklin Allee was born near Marlow, Oklahoma. When he was eight years old, his entire life was changed when he was hit in the eye with a rock. Blinded in one eye and with damaged vision in the other, he was sent away to a school for the blind. Instead of becoming a farmer, he became a teacher and taught generations of blind students in Arizona. My mother, one of his math students, decided that he would make a great stepfather. He was a beloved member of our family until his death in 1997.
