#OTD 3 May 1857, Peter Gustaf Fröling was born in the parish of Östra Ryd, Östergötland, Sweden. He was the second of five children, with two sisters and two younger brothers. He was the first emigrant from his immediate family, traveling with other cousins in our extended family. He settled in Marquette County, Michigan, where, after working as a miner, he acquired a homestead. His brothers followed in his footsteps, joining him in Michigan. Peter died at age 47, suffering from pneumonia with emphysema. Was that due to his years as a miner? He was survived by a wife and seven children.
