#OTD 25 April 1821, Measles claimed the life of Lena Stina Ekström, age 20, in the parish of Björsäter, Östergötland, Sweden. She was the oldest daughter of my third-great-grandfather and his first wife. Hers was the 13th death of the 14 in the parish during 1821. The epidemic appears to have started in January and ended in May. Most of the those who lost their lives to this horrid disease were infants and young children, but three were adults. Lena Stina worked and lived at a farm named Mulstad where an infant had died of measles just five weeks earlier. It is contagious and should not be making a comeback 200 years later.
