I hope that each and every corporation that does time clock apps that barely even test for iOS #accessibility let alone Android are sued into oblivion.

Coming up in GNOME 50, there’s a new accessibility option: Reduced Motion! It enables you to reduce animations across both the desktop and apps, which can help people with motion sensitivity, dizziness, or migraines.Thank you to the many contributors who made this happen! ️#GNOME #accessibility #linux #opensource #a11y #InclusiveDesign

Alt text is context based: a picture of a dog in a yard would have different emphases if it's someone sharing a picture of their dog, a dog food company's ad, or an ad for urine-resistant grass. While a couple tools can use AI to guess and fill in alt text, Adobe turns the setting on by default and doesn't make the guesses as easy to change. The guesses are often completely wrong in even identifying elements of the art. Be careful and check this! ^^ #accessibility #adobe

@nlowell @pixelate NVDA on Linux or a stable equivalent, with command to enable during OS setup. App install options during setup, including SSH. Minimal requirement of interacting with the CLI to make settings/config changes. Configured and updated for security by default, and interface to consolidate settings status for review and management. Offline search-based file and app access. No opinion on GUI to use due to being out of touch on their differences and capabilities. Stable development.

Mudpie v0.7.0 is out!The headline feature: Lua scripting. Enable "Advanced Mode" on any world to write Lua 5.3 scripts that automate your MUD experience. The mud.* API gives you full control — send commands, gag/substitute/highlight lines, echo client-side messages, play sounds, speak via TTS, fire notifications, and set persistent variables that survive app restarts.React to game events with pattern-matched handlers: mud.onLine, mud.onPrompt, mud.onConnect, mud.onDisconnect, and mud.onInput. Set up timers for delayed or repeating tasks. Variables set by Lua can even be referenced in trigger actions using $var{name} syntax.Multiple scripts per world, loaded in sort order. Global scripts run for every world. Scripts hot-reload — edit a script while connected and changes take effect immediately, no reconnect needed. The code editor has Lua syntax highlighting (keywords, strings, comments, numbers, builtins, mud.* calls), live validation with error/warning display, and AI generation via Claude — describe what you want in plain English and get working scripts back. For power users: the "Allow unsafe scripts" toggle (behind biometric auth) unlocks luajava for full Android API access, including runtime permission requests from scripts.Full keyboard mode support for script management: browse, create, edit, delete, and toggle scripts from the Edit menu. Ctrl+I cycles through validation issues with TTS.Also new in v0.7.0:Delayed command trigger action: sends a command after a configurable delayVariable expansion in triggers: $var{name} resolves to the current Lua variable value at trigger timeSound settings screen: manage sounds from Settings without creating a trigger first, with a new Global sounds folder shared across all worlds8 bug fixes for TalkBack, TTS, and UIDownload: https://github.com/aaron-gh/mudpie-releases/releases/tag/v0.7.0#MUD #accessibility #Android #a11y #Lua #gameDev

So here's a thing...We idly pondered booking a cruise on Queen Mary. 7 nights up to the Norwegian fjords to marvel at Slartibartfast's work. More than we are comfortable spending, really, but having done that voyage several times when I worked aboard, I know that T would enjoy it too. And it was their idea anyway. So we look at the booking. You have to tick a box to say that you require an accessible room if you use a wheelchair - even if you're an ambulatory user. The reason for this is down to SOLAS - Safety of Lives at Sea; International regulations that state that if a guest has mobility requirements, an evacuation chair must be made available to them. Even if the guest states they can walk up stairs in an emergency if necessary, they're not allowed to opt out. The number of evacuation chairs is tied to the number of accessible rooms. So on a ship the size of QM2, that's 31 rooms. Out of 1316. So on any one voyage, a maximum of 62 wheel chair users are permitted to travel. (assuming two people to a room)So far, so inaccessible. But so be it in a world where accessibility is an afterthought.HOWEVERThe ONLY way to book one of these accessible rooms is by paying extra for the 'Cunard Fare', which gives the ability to choose which room you have.So in essence, if you use a wheelchair - for whatever reason - your trip with Cunard* will cost you more than someone who doesn't use a chair. You literally have to pay more to travel with Cunard if you use a wheelchair. This is, to be clear, discrimination. For a seven night voyage this is an extra £300. Looking at the list of benefits, there is literally nothing else in the list we need, but because they've tied the accessible rooms to having to be able to choose your own room, they've put the cost of travel behind a £300 paywall. There's no reason for this that I can see. If you tick the box to say you need an accessible room, then the system should automatically only be able to put you in such a room if one is available. You cannot meaningfully choose your room if there are only 6 available at your price point. As I said: discrimination. So we're not going to visit Norway after all.#Accessibility #Disability _*I suspect it's the same across all of Carnival's lines, not just Cunard, but I haven't looked.

@techsinger If they're 11.6 or close to it, I don't consider that to be compact, either in keyboards or in laptops. I would say 10.1 or smaller is compact. My tablet is 7 inches, and the keyboard that I like is under 9.

@blindbat84 @pixelate I agree. I can tell you it sure wasn't a priority. Getting faculty to ensure their materials were accessible was a pain to do. They talked about"academic freedom". Some just didn't want to put the effort into access.

This way, the CSUN #assistiveTech conference is being held in California. It's a place where global #accessibility leaders, and a bunch of companies in that space, come together to share ideas, food, and I'm sure sometimes other things as well. #iykyk It's also a place where the newest #accessibility "innovations" are shown off to potential customers, and that's where today's stream comes in.I'm a #blind developer and computer power user. Would I actually use these products? Am I happy they exist, and was I consulted? Let's find out See you in an hour, 1 PM EST, over at https://twitch.tv/IC_Null or https://youtube.com/@viewpointunseen#tech #blindness #csun #csunat #stream #selfPromo #twitch

That's it. Apple broke this and there's no official fix. If this helped you, share it. If you use FileVault, sorry — this won't work at the pre-boot screen, that's a separate beast entirely. #VoiceOver #Accessibility #macOS
