And discovering this sort of total ridiculous shit is why there’s no substitute for going to the places and testing the trains on #CrossBorderRail

You only *get this* once you’ve experienced it

@jon It's a data failure. The 8:19 from Dijon to Culmont-Chalindrey is not reservation required, other trains from Culmont-Chalindrey are for the section Nogent-sur-Seine - Paris.

@jon I,m reading about this COMPULSORY RESERVATION. What is the idea behind this? Making more money or protecting something? I really don't understand this. Why not on all trains if it is important. Why this bullying off the travelers?

Also how Dijon shows in @12train 🤬

If TER Fluo (ie Grand Est) operates the train: Dijon Ville

If TER Mobigo (ie Bourgogne Franche Comté) operates it: Dijon

        It’s the same station

@jon @12train get the same with Edinburgh where some systems say "Edinburgh", others "Edinburgh (Waverley)", and I'm sure I've seen "Edinburgh (City Centre)" all refer to the same station. In my quick look at some apps it looks like the city centre variant isn't showing any more, but not all include the Waverley.

@jon @12train oh, the issue is with Djon is within the same app and journey plan results list. Ok that's a lot worse that the Edinburgh issue which is at least consistent within each app.

@smveerman I will ask the train manager. I assume it’s because it’s a Coradia Liner and a train number in the series of Paris Est - Belfort. It’s not only an Interrail or Merits data problem.

@bastro the railway would work better if fewer passengers took it.

@jon See the schedule, that has a note only for trains from/to Paris that a reservation is needed: https://ter-fiches-horaires.sncf.fr/publish/C04_Mulhouse%20Dijon%20Troyes%20Paris-Est_HIVER_semaine_(01022026au28022026)V3.pdf

@smveerman yes. But why if I book a ticket for it, is it asking me to choose a seat? Maybe I’m allowed to not do this, and I didn’t go through with the booking (obviously). At the very least it’s not well done.

@jon The combination of train number and having no way to make a train only part of the way reservation only are reasons I guess. It's also a solution to a non-existing problem.

                                Welcome to today's thread - #CrossBorderRail 2026 Tour Day 03 - 18 Feb - Ravières - Dijon - Culmont Chalindrey - Paris – Genève

                                New borders:
                                None

                                Borders already crossed:
                                Russin 🇨🇭 - Pougny-Chancy 🇫🇷

Today starts with a scenic detour en route to Paris – from Ravières via Dijon and Culmont Chalindrey onto the old main line through Troyes to Paris Est. Then an event at the Assemblée Nationale in Paris, and finally a TGV Lyria to Genève.

Today's routes on the routes map:

@jon I hate to be that guy, but it’s Pougny-Chancy.

Not to be confused with Pouilly, there was a station in Saint-Genis Pouilly on the former line from Collonges - Fort l'Écluse to Gex and then Nyon.

If TER Fluo (ie Grand Est) operates the train: Dijon Ville

If TER Mobigo (ie Bourgogne Franche Comté) operates it: Dijon

                                  It’s the same station

@jon @12train Aaalso.. why does SNCF use a different train number in their own channels than they report to international timetables? The leading 8 is only included in their own systems.

(It’s marked as compulsory reservation in Merits too)

@jon I hate to be that guy, but it’s Pougny-Chancy.

Not to be confused with Pouilly, there was a station in Saint-Genis Pouilly on the former line from Collonges - Fort l'Écluse to Gex and then Nyon.

@thias then it’s wrong in the European Commission’s list 😀 I’ll correct it.

@stefanlindbohm @12train that extra number depends on the Région I think? But it’s not consistently applied.

@jon As with pretty much everything in France (not only trains!), it's only compulsory reservation if the train manager decides to enforce it, if they bother checking tickets at all that is
