No, those who didn't vote brought us to this moment. Had people paid attention things would have been far from here. Biden/Harris had us in a place that would have rebuilt the economy between WWII and 1970's. Unions back in strength, if you look at the 5 bills that trump doesn't dare allow you'll see what I'm saying. Ignorance & not paying attention is what brought us here. GOP has been fighting for this for 75 years. B/H almost got it back in 4years.

Biden's America had the best economic recovery from covid in the WORLD, even after we had the worst death rate (& probably the worst long-term health damage) from the pandemic

he was an amazing POTUS who made amazing strides so...

this had to be stopped by the relentless forces of negativity

some times i wonder if humanity deserves to survive if our greatest talent is our gift to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

      right

and with trump we get what?

oh i see: you expect perfection

and if you don't get it: well then fuck palestinians even worse with trump?

as long as your precious impotent sense of perfection is untouched by the call to do something, because doing something is imperfect

you're fine with trump. you're fine with fascism. you're fine with genocide

Pretty sure "anything that isn't perfect, is shit" is an actual form of demonic possession. Poop-head Demon infestation. Or maybe worms in the brain.
      One or the other

Or maybe just entitled pretentious arseholery

@roger @benroyce @Netraven @mcnado I am not an American so to me there is no difference which president sends the bombs. What I do know is that historically fascism is defeated on the streets, not the ballot box. If all you can do politically is vote for the least worst option, you will always end up in this point just later. Why can't you channel all that energy instead to build something for yourselves, not controlled by big money and actually by the people?

          No

That is the ONLY way that things work.
We have shitty choices now, because people who could have influenced things to get better options stood back and let things take their course.

Paradigmatic changes almost never happen, and are almost always bad. Incremental and marginal improvement is almost always the only way things actually improve. It works like that to make better sausages, airplanes, or policies

You vote for the ones that don't suck. It's that fucking simple. So far, that excludes 99% of the GOP and 66% of the DNC.

              Fucking figure it out.

@hakona @JakeKb @benroyce @roger @Netraven @mcnado Exactly. And the stronger you feel the more you should feel compelled to canvas, support, work your arse off for those candidates that DO deserve your support. And in your 2 party system such candidates have no choice but to present themselves as "GOP" or Dem.

A third party CAN be created but the amount of effort to pull THAT off would be gargantuan. Don't expect to see the fruits of THAT effort in your lifetime if you're over 40.

@hakona @JakeKb @benroyce @roger @Netraven @mcnado But maybe it's something that needs to be done. Long term thinking doesn't seem to be US citizens' strong point, but as the Dutch saying goes: "boompje groot, plantertje dood". By the time a tree is mature, its planter will have died of old age. Why bother? For your children's children.

@benroyce @Pine_Affinity @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado It really isn't rocket science: vote principle in the primary, vote party in the general election. The first is how you keep Democrats honest and move them to the left. The second is how you keep outright fascists out of power.

@benroyce @roger @Netraven @mcnado That's not really an argument. You can fight against the 2 party system, you can even fight to dismantle the 2 party system and go for proportional representation. Other countries had 2 party systems and dismantled them. @benroyce @Pine_Affinity @curiousgawker @screwturn @Netraven @mcnado maybe you will keep pushing voters away from the dems and enough people will gather to replace them completely. Then they will have something to vote for.

Im a big proponent of voting, but this kind of dialog makes me look bad by association

well we don't follow each other, so there's no association

and we will never have 3rd parties in the USA as long as we have FPTP voting. we need ranked choice to make 3rd parties possible

3rd party talk is a self-destructive "solution" that divides the left vote, in FPTP, and so in reality only helps MAGA win

so please, by all means continue not associating your ignorance about the US voting system with me

Wait ... so you think that urging people to vote, and opposing arguments about it being futile because it isn't perfect .... is "pushing voters away"?

If I did the opposite and screamed at people to not vote for anything that wasn't perfect, would that help bring in more votes?

The election was already lost. Flinging poo at people who could help you win the next time is not the action I would advise

@benroyce @Pine_Affinity @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado It really isn't rocket science: vote principle in the primary, vote party in the general election. The first is how you keep Democrats honest and move them to the left. The second is how you keep outright fascists out of power.

@msbellows @benroyce @Pine_Affinity @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado I want to smack peoples’ heads together and remind them that you can’t make up for a huge Overton window debt in one election any more than I can spend one grueling day at the gym to make up for months of inactivity, and no amount of not voting/exercising while dreaming of a better and increasingly distant future helps.

@benroyce @roger @Netraven @mcnado You didn't even read my comment. I make a simple argument from history that you can fight those systems with enough popular support, that is if you want to. We had an actual dictatorship in my country, supported by the US and we took it down. How? Through peoples movements, that how it works. You just don't want actual change that's the problem.

People are so used to living in this 30 second bubble that they can't see much beyond. I've watched it for over 70 years. GOP got us here, screwed us all the way. 4 of the last 5 GOP presidents has had to cheat to "win" the election. Nixon mated the GOP to fundy xtians, Reagan added the corporations, wealth & changed too many laws, while working with Iranians. I'm an independent & can see only too well what we have blown off.
