No, I won’t vote for any genocide party. This is the most reasonable line to draw in the entire history of humanity.

@Pine_Affinity @c_merriweather @benroyce @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado No, it's not. Whether you vote or not, you WILL get one "genocidal party" (I will use your words) or the other. If EVERY action OR inaction you choose will lead to a "genocidal party" in power you have a moral obligation to make that choice, at that one juncture, that leads to the least amount of harm: vote for the the least "genocidal" of the two.

The day after, go back to working on getting better choices than 2 g. parties

the USA being two parties is not corruption, it's just math:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duverger%27s_law

of course corruption exists, but it's not the reason for only 2 parties

it's because of our antiquated FPTP voting system

if we get ranked choice voting (which requires people to vote in our current shitty system to get it) then we can have stable viable third parties

@benroyce @Pine_Affinity @c_merriweather @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado I learned about that in politics/history class. Seems a common global problem: old structures resisting to go away and make place. In germany we have laws going back to monarchy... and "cyber-laws" based on "privacy of letters". But hey, we adopted gerrymandering, yeah!

I agree that RCV will provide a more responsive democracy for the USA.

But we are looking at least 20 years before it is implemented. And political parties will still be running the show!

We can build a party-less democracy in that 20 years!

I think this is what you meant:

I believe that wealthy people, and people who benefit from war or from the existing system, understand their interests clearly. They vote in primaries to protect those interests, and then they also reliably vote in the general elections.

In France, many people became tired of the two main parties. So some of us tried to weaken those parties by voting massively in the primaries for more left-wing candidates, even when we did not fully support those parties ourselves.

One result of this was Macron. Even though he came from one of the established parties and had already been a minister, the media presented him as if he were new, outside the system, and someone different to try. People still voted for him.

But at least, since then, the two traditional main parties have fallen into much weaker positions, and that gives us a better chance of getting candidates we actually want.

I also think municipal elections are very important, because they serve different purposes. For example, local officials can influence whether someone is able to run in the presidential election, and they can also choose Senate representatives.

So overall, I mean that people in the worst situations are voting now, and little by little they are managing to change the political landscape.

Is that an accurate restatement of what you meant?

it's all about the ego masturbation. it's never about improving the world

morality without action isn't morality at all. and all action is imperfect

Bizarre anti-logic. May god have mercy on your soul.

it's kind of hard, pine affinity, to be judged by someone who sits there with a smirk and does nothing while we march to fascism. partly getting to fascism because you won't do shit except whine and imagine yourself superior. when you have no superiority. you have toxic idealism and immaturity

                                    nope

if you show up, especially in the primaries, you get the candidates you want

                                    if you don't, you don't

bad candidates do not cause lack of voting

lack of voting causes bad candidates

you have the cause and effect reversed and are abrogating a simple effort to make your will known. and for what? ego masturbation over toxic idealism?

not voting is monumentally stupid, and is the cause of our problems as much as MAGA

get him out in the primary in 2028

You don't have a party on the ballot. You have specific candidates and specific issues, and you should pick the best option on the ballot for each item.

It is a harm reduction test, and not voting hands the choice to people who will be energized to give you the worst outcome

@screwturn @Pine_Affinity @benroyce @Netraven @mcnado at this point in history no one should vote for a Republican.

There ain't gonna be a future with the Christofascists in power.

With climate collapse, there is no idealized future, only surviving until the next day.

                                          Humanity fucked up.

hey did you know that the US military is the largest greenhouse gas polluter on the planet and that Dems have consistently voted to increase its funding year over year?
