    @Pine_Affinity @Netraven @mcnado

    yes

    and so you argue for voting in the primaries, and showing the fuck up, to stop this

    right?

    you think i am defending centrist dems while i argue continually for showing the fuck up in the primaries to replace them?

    are you arguing against what i am really saying?

    or do you think you can play a shell game and lie to yourself about what i am saying and prove anything other than that you can't follow the simple fucking point

      The Democrats recently removed opposition to the death penalty from their platform and violated national and international law by arming Israel.

      the democrats fucking suck

      the point is harm reduction, and moving in a good direction

      if you iterate on that, you get real change. especially show up in the primaries and pick the most left candidate

      if you drop out and whine, things continue drifting right

        Thus following the great American low-voter-turnout tradition, which hasn’t seen voter participation great than 63% in over 100 years; midterms average around 40%.

        And be sure to A. Register as a Republican B. Vote a straight Democratic ticket (or for the independent where Right Wing poseurs are running as Democrats, like in Nebraska). Registering Republican will increase the chances that your votes will not be thrown out or that your registration will not simple vanish.

                    Hey you are just stupid 😉 Richest people, people wanting war know their interest, and vote in the primaries for their interest, and they will then for sure vote at elections. In France, people tired by the people of the main 2 parties, managed to made these parties explode, by voting massively for leftist ones at primaries, even if they don't like these parties. The side effect has been Macron, that come from one of these parties, that was minister, that all newspaper/TV news sold as someone that never was in a post of gvt, someone to test, and people still voted for him. At least the two main parties are in last positions since, and we have more chance to have our wanted candidates. municipalities that is an important step here, for different purpose (they can accept or not that someone represent at presidencial election, they can choose senat representatives). People that are in the badest position vote now, and manage to change political field progressively.

                        clarification that france does not have FPTP

                        us americans are stuck in a shit system where we have to change the democratic party in dreary strategy rather than start a real 3rd party

                        but some americans don't understand that, and cling to an ignorance about how our stupid system works

                        until we get ranked choice voting to get viable 3rd parties, which again, will require them voting. but they don't. they're useless turds endlessly whining

                          @Popolon @Pine_Affinity@mastodon.social @benroyce@mastodon.social @mcnado

                          I think this is what you meant:

                          I believe that wealthy people, and people who benefit from war or from the existing system, understand their interests clearly. They vote in primaries to protect those interests, and then they also reliably vote in the general elections.

                          In France, many people became tired of the two main parties. So some of us tried to weaken those parties by voting massively in the primaries for more left-wing candidates, even when we did not fully support those parties ourselves.

                          One result of this was Macron. Even though he came from one of the established parties and had already been a minister, the media presented him as if he were new, outside the system, and someone different to try. People still voted for him.

                          But at least, since then, the two traditional main parties have fallen into much weaker positions, and that gives us a better chance of getting candidates we actually want.

                          I also think municipal elections are very important, because they serve different purposes. For example, local officials can influence whether someone is able to run in the presidential election, and they can also choose Senate representatives.

                          So overall, I mean that people in the worst situations are voting now, and little by little they are managing to change the political landscape.

                          Is that an accurate restatement of what you meant?

                              and yet by not voting you help MAGA win, and are therefore supporting genocide

                              the lie you tell yourself is that by not voting you are not part of it

                              it betrays your essential delusion: that you can drop out and act morally superior. when the truth is by your inactions you support genocide

                              you really do. you're just too ignorant to understand how your world works

                              the only way forward is harm reduction

                                @lankohr @Pine_Affinity @c_merriweather @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado

                                the USA being two parties is not corruption, it's just math:

                                https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duverger%27s_law

                                of course corruption exists, but it's not the reason for only 2 parties

                                it's because of our antiquated FPTP voting system

                                if we get ranked choice voting (which requires people to vote in our current shitty system to get it) then we can have stable viable third parties

                                  and yet by not voting you help MAGA win, and are therefore supporting genocide

                                  the lie you tell yourself is that by not voting you are not part of it

                                  it betrays your essential delusion: that you can drop out and act morally superior. when the truth is by your inactions you support genocide

                                  you really do. you're just too ignorant to understand how your world works

                                  the only way forward is harm reduction

                                    No, I won’t vote for any genocide party. This is the most reasonable line to draw in the entire history of humanity.

                                    Then there is no party, in any country that you can vote for. Please join a monastery or catch the next fight off the planet. People are never perfect.

                                    Again, quit whining.

                                        I agree that RCV will provide a more responsive democracy for the USA.

                                        But we are looking at least 20 years before it is implemented. And political parties will still be running the show!

                                        We can build a party-less democracy in that 20 years!

                                          my partner will not donate to DSCC, which is mailing us in the postal mail all the time for contributions, until he is gone. all money begs are returned in the envelope with no money, but sharpie art and words explaining that constraint very explicitly.

                                          ...going back to the original post by @mcnado , perhaps a thing to test in primaries is whether the candidates support properly requiring AIPAC to register as a foreign agent. they are lobbying on behalf of Israel ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Agents_Registration_Act#Allegations_of_selective_enforcement
