@JakeKb @benroyce @roger @Netraven @mcnado But people prefer to sit on their arse for 1460 days and then go "Oh LoOk BoTh SiDeS BaD So i WoN't VoTe" and then post cynical dreck on Social Media about how "rotten" "the system" is, and repeat that self defeating shit every 4 years. What is rotten is your self indulgent self pitying apathetic mush for brains.
I share your frustration. It is pretty much the same everywhere.
But it is also not completely true. People are organizing. Historically, this has always happened. Capitalist systems always decay into fascism at some point and the people take time to organize and grasp the issue.
There are also proven methods to work against this. Voting is provides the needed slowdown and organizing is sewing the parachutes while approaching the inevitable cliff.

which we get by supporting dem candidates who say so
not because dems are perfect, but because you have dems against RCV and dems for it, and we have to make that choice
meawhile the GOP in 2024 took a blanket stand against RCV
@benroyce @draNgNon @screwturn @Kierkegaanks @Netraven @JakeKb @mcnado @Pine_Affinity
Remember that Alaska passed RCV inspite of massive complaint and protest from the GOP, Hell they even brought Sarah back into the deal. Sadly the GOP did get our single House member. So if it can be done here . . . .

Was Biden better than the Orange guy?
Was Kamal better than the Orange guy?We got the worst option because people who should have voted for her, just never showed up

Thus following the great American low-voter-turnout tradition, which hasn’t seen voter participation great than 63% in over 100 years; midterms average around 40%.

@haui Absolutely, and of course my rant was directed at those who do actually sing that siren song of capitulation. Those who work their arses of to bring on change, I'll salute.

@Pine_Affinity @benroyce @Netraven @mcnado "why would I vote"
You wouldn't. It would interfere with your carefully cultivated worthlessness.

Here is a simple difference:
Democrats:
Advocate for the use of the scientific method, and the improvements in life from the Enlightenment, the New Deal, and the Civil Rights movement. Also, that people are basically good, and should choose what they want to believe or not believe, and have control over their own bodies.Republicans:
Believe that the Bible (KJV, of course) is the literal word of their vindictive god, who was created by dudes who got lost in a desert, and failed to ask their wives for directions. Then they created a demi-god myth based on a Jewish dude who was executed for pissing off the Romans. They want to turn the US into the theocratic hellscape envisioned by the Calvinist colonizers (see Project 2025). Then they want a war in the ME, for all the Jews to convert to their brand of "Christianity," all so -only they- get raptured up into their heaven, to live in eternity with their brutal god.That, friends, is the difference.
The Democrats recently removed opposition to the death penalty from their platform and violated national and international law by arming Israel.

@Pine_Affinity @TagYourToe @Netraven @mcnado
and yet here you are, endlessly commenting on how being proud of alienation from making a difference in the world is totally awesome
i mean, great snark? good for you? applause?
perfect is not on the menu. expecting that before acting is moronic
imagine the difference in the USA if all the empty whiners about not voting on social media just fucking showed up and voted, especially in the primaries
-
@Pine_Affinity @Netraven @mcnado
yes
and so you argue for voting in the primaries, and showing the fuck up, to stop this
right?
you think i am defending centrist dems while i argue continually for showing the fuck up in the primaries to replace them?
are you arguing against what i am really saying?
or do you think you can play a shell game and lie to yourself about what i am saying and prove anything other than that you can't follow the simple fucking point
-

@Pine_Affinity @c_merriweather @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado
the democrats fucking suck
the point is harm reduction, and moving in a good direction
if you iterate on that, you get real change. especially show up in the primaries and pick the most left candidate
if you drop out and whine, things continue drifting right
the simple truth is:
the democrats sucking is your fault
if you do not vote, or articulate a lying lazy entitled rationale to not vote
that really is the truth

And be sure to A. Register as a Republican B. Vote a straight Democratic ticket (or for the independent where Right Wing poseurs are running as Democrats, like in Nebraska). Registering Republican will increase the chances that your votes will not be thrown out or that your registration will not simple vanish. -

So go vote for the GOP, then. You only have two choices right now.

pine affinity does not know, or care, that not voting is supporting MAGA. all they have is emotionality, and no reason. they completely missed your point

Hey you are just stupid
Richest people, people wanting war know their interest, and vote in the primaries for their interest, and they will then for sure vote at elections. In France, people tired by the people of the main 2 parties, managed to made these parties explode, by voting massively for leftist ones at primaries, even if they don't like these parties. The side effect has been Macron, that come from one of these parties, that was minister, that all newspaper/TV news sold as someone that never was in a post of gvt, someone to test, and people still voted for him. At least the two main parties are in last positions since, and we have more chance to have our wanted candidates. municipalities that is an important step here, for different purpose (they can accept or not that someone represent at presidencial election, they can choose senat representatives). People that are in the badest position vote now, and manage to change political field progressively.

No, I won’t vote for any genocide party. This is the most reasonable line to draw in the entire history of humanity.

clarification that france does not have FPTP
us americans are stuck in a shit system where we have to change the democratic party in dreary strategy rather than start a real 3rd party
but some americans don't understand that, and cling to an ignorance about how our stupid system works
until we get ranked choice voting to get viable 3rd parties, which again, will require them voting. but they don't. they're useless turds endlessly whining

I think this is what you meant:
I believe that wealthy people, and people who benefit from war or from the existing system, understand their interests clearly. They vote in primaries to protect those interests, and then they also reliably vote in the general elections.
In France, many people became tired of the two main parties. So some of us tried to weaken those parties by voting massively in the primaries for more left-wing candidates, even when we did not fully support those parties ourselves.
One result of this was Macron. Even though he came from one of the established parties and had already been a minister, the media presented him as if he were new, outside the system, and someone different to try. People still voted for him.
But at least, since then, the two traditional main parties have fallen into much weaker positions, and that gives us a better chance of getting candidates we actually want.
I also think municipal elections are very important, because they serve different purposes. For example, local officials can influence whether someone is able to run in the presidential election, and they can also choose Senate representatives.
So overall, I mean that people in the worst situations are voting now, and little by little they are managing to change the political landscape.
Is that an accurate restatement of what you meant?

@benroyce @Pine_Affinity @c_merriweather @pascaline @Netraven @mcnado I never got the grasp of the two parties system. Seems very limited to me, like "plague or cholera" (german idiom, I don't know the corresponding translation).
