@EUCommission well done. Now start sanctioning Israel for constantly targeting journalist.

    Sérieusement !?
Vous avez toujours 3 ou 4 guerres de retard avant de seulement vous inquiéter mollement... mais votre inaction chronique pour des sanctions envers les auteurs des ces crimes, ne fait que les aggraver et les multiplier ! ...

@Lykkerik @EUCommission if he indeed was funneling Russian state money into propaganda projects it seems entirely appropriate, that isn't journalism.

@Lykkerik @EUCommission it's exactly how sanctions are supposed work, they're not at all a "punishment" in the sense that convictions in the justice system are.

That's not to say they cannot be challenged legally after the fact of course if there's any real basis to do it. In this case it sounds like there may not really be.

@ikuturso @EUCommission So, to avoid the annoying legal principle that you're innocent until proven guilty, we use sanctions because sanctions (blocking an individual and his family's existence) is not punishment. Sounds alarmingly antidemocratic to me.

@Lykkerik @EUCommission well, if we started seeing cases where state actors weren't really involved and the connection to foreign policy was not really defensible I'd agree it would be worrying.

@EUCommission Except when the truth is mildly inconvenient to those in power or those with wealth. Then the truth will be muted and reporters will lose funding.

@Lykkerik @EUCommission Nah, this has nothing to do with that "basic legal principle" as I already explained. The ICC sanctions by the USA are utterly indefensible in comparison to these as they are targeting an independent international court performing its appropriate legal functions, something that shouldn't even be the basis of sanctions in the first place.
