Je les connais bien les diplos : ils sortent tous de sciences po ou de l'ENA, ils sont formatés pour reciter des éléments de langages, pas pour être dans l'action.

@Lykkerik @EUCommission it's exactly how sanctions are supposed work, they're not at all a "punishment" in the sense that convictions in the justice system are.
That's not to say they cannot be challenged legally after the fact of course if there's any real basis to do it. In this case it sounds like there may not really be.

@ikuturso @EUCommission So, to avoid the annoying legal principle that you're innocent until proven guilty, we use sanctions because sanctions (blocking an individual and his family's existence) is not punishment. Sounds alarmingly antidemocratic to me.

@Lykkerik @EUCommission well, if we started seeing cases where state actors weren't really involved and the connection to foreign policy was not really defensible I'd agree it would be worrying.

@ikuturso @EUCommission Either you believe in the basic legal principle that everyone's innocent until proven guilty, or you don't. Has he been tried and found guilty of committing a crime, or not?
