@lizzard @ragman I think it’s a bit like security used to be. Nobody cared, right? Now they do, but most just worry about compliance and worst-case scenarios.

@caroline Oh, that entire issue is full of homo- and transphobic content, including the wedding headline I cropped on the cover. There’s even a ‘letter to the editor’ calling it out.Other issues have easily as much. That thing was trash.

The GNOME 50 release of our Calendar app also brings a very nice accessibility change: it’s now possible to navigate through events via the keyboard! ️In addition, many accessibility labels have been updated to improve the overall experience with screen readers. Thanks to @TheEvilSkeleton and @zoeyTheWitch for making this happen!#GNOME #accessibility #a11y

@fireborn Oh some one on the Accessible Android crew ran into an issue where, if you switch to GBoard with the tap type accessibility overlay on, Gboard gets the same tap to type thing, which isn't what he wanted.

TapType v1.1 is out. Big update.Action mode. You can now move the cursor, select text, copy, cut, and paste — all without leaving TapType. Swipe left/right to move, swipe up/down to change granularity (character, word, sentence, line, document). Tap to toggle selection mode. Two-finger swipes for clipboard. Spaces, punctuation, and capitals are all announced properly when navigating by character.Clipboard mode. Browse your clipboard history and paste from it. It only captures what's on the clipboard when the keyboard opens — no background listener, no spying.Autocomplete. Word prediction no longer requires you to tap every letter. After a few taps it suggests longer words that match what you've typed so far. It also suggests shorter words in case you hit an extra key.Spell-out. After announcing a word, TapType spells it out character by character — helpful for homophones like their/there/they're. Configurable delay, can be turned off.Punctuation rework. Punctuation commits instantly now. Swipe up/down to cycle through options, swipe right again to chain them (!!!, ?!, etc.).Other stuff: "I" is always capitalized, delete-by-word instead of character, full screen hide keyboard fix, and various bug fixes.Download: https://github.com/aaron-gh/taptype-releases/releases/tag/v1.1#TapType #Accessibility #A11y #Android #Blind #VisuallyImpaired #TalkBack #Keyboard #AssistiveTech

@fireborn @jonathan859 nope, still doesn't work here. if I use two fingers and swipe left on the keyboard area I get "nothing to delete", and it inserted a 'g' when I tapped on the "TapType keyboard" object.

The `aria-description` attribute still won’t auto-translate in browsers (except Firefox in some cases):https://adrianroselli.com/2025/01/aria-description-does-not-translate.html#Update02The bugs I filed with Chrome, Safari, and Firefox have sat untouched for a year.So probably still avoid `aria-description`.#accessibility #a11y #ARIA

For those who wants to give NVDA a second look, NVDA Coach add-on may be very usefulIntroduction to NVDA CoachI'd like to share a free NVDA add-on that I think would help power Jaws users like me to get more familiar with NvDA. It is just recently released by a chap named tony gebhard and its called NVDA Coach, an interactive, in-screen-reader training tool designed to help new users learn NVDA through hands-on guided lessons, without ever leaving the screen reader environment.I would say it's liken to the built-in voiceover tutorial that we are familiar in the iOS system. The recent access on podcast episode #66; NVDA in the Past, Present, and Future has invited a lot of curiosity from new users and even seasoned jaws users that want to give NVDA another look.Anyone that's starting out from that route may want to try this add-on alongside not so beginner friendly user guide and the reasonably priced Basic Training ebook by NVAccess. As a side note, an NVDA-like add-on store is much needed in the jaws ecosystem. That would be the first place new people would want to go to find cool stuff. What is NVDA Coach?NVDA Coach walks students through real NVDA commands step by step, with immediate feedback as they practice each gesture. No need to switch between a tutorial document and NVDA — the coaching happens right inside NVDA itself. What's Included ? 34 Lessons Across Five Chapters, among them are Getting Started (navigation, reading, speech control, and more)Browse Mode (virtual cursor, links, headings, the Elements List, and a live practice page)How to activate it? Press NVDA + Shift + C to open the lesson picker at any time. The latest version as of now is NVDA Coach v1.1.0.What's New in here, among others,Lesson ContentAll steps are now labeled [NVDA command] or [Universal shortcut] so you know which is whichAll lessons include "why" framing (sighted equivalent context)New chapter: Object Navigation — 6 lessonsNew chapter: Customizing NVDA — 2 lessons (keyboard layout, speech settings)Browse Mode lesson 9: Find Text on a Page (NVDA+Ctrl+F)Browse Mode lesson 10: Toggle Single-Letter Navigation (NVDA+Shift+Space)Hotkey NoteNVDA+Shift+C can be remapped via NVDA menu > Preferences > Input Gestures > NVDA CoachMany people are trying this add-on and the interest is brewing. Thanks to Joseph, Gene, and Darrell Hilliker for the feedback that shaped this release.Download the add-onSource code & documentationAccording to the Author, It will soon be available in the official NvDA add-on store, last I check its already submited for review. This add-on was built with AT instructors, orientation and mobility specialists, and self-directed learners in mind. Feedback, bug reports, and suggestions are always welcome [[https://github.com/tonygeb23/nvdaCoach-/](via GitHub).#NVDA #ScreenReader #accessibility #jaws #a11y

@xogium Although seleste was doomed to fail from the beginning. From conception, to hardware to community engagement in development. They got an initial investment and spent like crazy which also isn't a great approach. We can only hope other companies learn from their mistakes.

Coming up in GNOME 50, there’s a new accessibility option: Reduced Motion! It enables you to reduce animations across both the desktop and apps, which can help people with motion sensitivity, dizziness, or migraines.Thank you to the many contributors who made this happen! ️#GNOME #accessibility #linux #opensource #a11y #InclusiveDesign

@AstralAudio @technocounselor Oh excellent! This was just for FF IV though, right? I hate that each mod is separate. I mean I get it, they're each their own game, but still it's annoying.

Mudpie v0.7.0 is out!The headline feature: Lua scripting. Enable "Advanced Mode" on any world to write Lua 5.3 scripts that automate your MUD experience. The mud.* API gives you full control — send commands, gag/substitute/highlight lines, echo client-side messages, play sounds, speak via TTS, fire notifications, and set persistent variables that survive app restarts.React to game events with pattern-matched handlers: mud.onLine, mud.onPrompt, mud.onConnect, mud.onDisconnect, and mud.onInput. Set up timers for delayed or repeating tasks. Variables set by Lua can even be referenced in trigger actions using $var{name} syntax.Multiple scripts per world, loaded in sort order. Global scripts run for every world. Scripts hot-reload — edit a script while connected and changes take effect immediately, no reconnect needed. The code editor has Lua syntax highlighting (keywords, strings, comments, numbers, builtins, mud.* calls), live validation with error/warning display, and AI generation via Claude — describe what you want in plain English and get working scripts back. For power users: the "Allow unsafe scripts" toggle (behind biometric auth) unlocks luajava for full Android API access, including runtime permission requests from scripts.Full keyboard mode support for script management: browse, create, edit, delete, and toggle scripts from the Edit menu. Ctrl+I cycles through validation issues with TTS.Also new in v0.7.0:Delayed command trigger action: sends a command after a configurable delayVariable expansion in triggers: $var{name} resolves to the current Lua variable value at trigger timeSound settings screen: manage sounds from Settings without creating a trigger first, with a new Global sounds folder shared across all worlds8 bug fixes for TalkBack, TTS, and UIDownload: https://github.com/aaron-gh/mudpie-releases/releases/tag/v0.7.0#MUD #accessibility #Android #a11y #Lua #gameDev
