    @sunnythesheep direct effect means that people in your countries can apply EU law directly in their courts.
    Some types of EU legislation have direct effect while others do not. For instance EU directives don’t have direct effect and have to first be transposed into international law by the member states. I always found it ironic that the type of law called a directive doesn’t have direct effect.

  • Did you know the Court of Auditors is also on #Mastodon?
    hpod16@eupolicy.socialH hpod16@eupolicy.social

    @negschaumburg1 @EUauditors
    Because technically, the Court of Auditors is it's own EU institution, and the account you name is just for the European Commission.
    But I agree, one official instance for all EU Institutions would be nice.

  • When was the last time you felt like you learned something?
    hpod16@eupolicy.socialH hpod16@eupolicy.social

    @mayintoronto I think this is also a big factor with languages.
    I speak a handful, but they regress when I am not actively using them. That said, every time I rededicate myself to one of them, they come back pretty fast. Which makes me feel less bad about phases where I neglect one of them. I know the neural pathways can be reactivated. πŸ’œ

    I'm studying for an exam to become an EU civil servant, called the #EPSO, so I am relearning all the EU Law stuff from my Bachelors Degree. I am really glad I held onto my books from those days. It's much easier to re-learn something you once knew when you still have some physical things to hold onto. (when it comes to books I may have a hoarding problem)
    I'm also learning how to play the #BassGuitar.

    Did you know the Court of Auditors is also on #Mastodon? Go say hello! @EUauditors πŸ’œ

    The European Court of Auditors (ECA) was made a full EU institution by the TEU, under Article 13 TEU, and Articles 285-287 TFEU. As the name suggests, it audits the expenditure of the other institutions for legality and sound financial management.

    True! The common law legal system is largely built on case law. In the EU, case law is there to interpret laws, but that’s still important.
