    US troops are not in Germany to protect Germany. They’re there because the US needs bases to conduct operations beyond the North American continent. If Trump withdraws them, he will harm the United States, not Germany.

    It’s absurd how many Americans fail to grasp this.

    @Strandjunker@mstdn.social Personally, I would actually feel a great deal better if the 40,000 troops of this mafia-terror state were to leave our country. That makes it more difficult for the USA to invade us.

          @Strandjunker Americans just know as little from European countries as Europeans know about States in America.

          And about those 5000 troops... He probably send that many to Germany to prepare for the Irak war, making it definitely a non-issue.

                @Strandjunker Oh, don't worry: The Germans don't grasp it either. In the news they had quite a large bullshit bingo why this is bad for Germany (something about economy, maintaining workplaces, other foo).

                Shifting the view to "having soldier from someone who might be your enemy tomorrow already in your land" is way to complex to get. They really do believe in dangers to "the economy".... 🙄️

                        @Strandjunker
                        I'm not sure, but I think it's a bit of both.
                        As far as I recognize, the US army is not Trump and there are many experienced generals who know what is important. The same I know lots of Americans who are reliable integer citizens and not trumpists.
                        I think, it's right to demand a stronger participation by Germany (and the EU) in the NATO.
                        But I also believe that there's a strategical interest for the US to be present in Germany.

                        It's not easy (never been). I'm German and hope we stay with each other.

                          @baglava @Strandjunker Well it's taken Putin about 4 years to march 250km into Ukraine.

                          At that rate, we can expect him in Lisbon sometime in 2090.

                          Do we think he'll still be alive in 64 years?

                                  That's right. Many US veterans owe their lives to treatment they received at Ramstein after being wounded in action or accidentally injured in the Mideast or elsewhere. (So I'm told. No firsthand knowledge myself.)

                                        US troops are not in Germany to protect Germany. They’re there because the US needs bases to conduct operations beyond the North American continent. If Trump withdraws them, he will harm the United States, not Germany.

                                        It’s absurd how many Americans fail to grasp this.

                                          @Strandjunker Europe will be a safer place without US forces. The fewer the better.
