    @wjmaggos @Eetschrijver @mistergibson

    well our purposes overlap then because the current problem in the usa is the plutocrat-bigot political axis

    bigots vote for plutocrats because plutocrats promise to be abusive to groups bigots hate, and they don't care about plutocrats robbing them

    and plutocrats control media and social media and feed bigots cheer to fire them up to vote

    and here you are, arguing to let bigots on the fediverse?

    hell fucking no. never going to happen

    @benroyce @Eetschrijver @mistergibson

    the bigots exist IRL. they have websites. ugh.

    afaict you think that bigots here would make us like X. even though we don't have an algo.

    what I think would happen is you'd just also get to follow people who aren't here cause the no bigot policy excludes lots of normie non lefties which includes their followers so they say why bother. but we'd also be surprised by support from people we follow for moderate policies. and see rightwing opposition to war.

      if someone says something bigoted, they are nuked from the fediverse

      everything else you say, about normies, right wingers, moderates, non lefties, conservatives, etc: unaffected

      unless by your insistence on confusing "nuke bigot accounts" with "nuke conservative accounts" time after time after time that you are tacitly admitting much if not most of conservatism is in fact bigotry

        @benroyce @Eetschrijver @mistergibson

        I'm arguing you don't control that distinction. that we don't see users who are non left but also not bigoted on fedi today and the prevalent norm here you're defending (while saying you're not) is a big part of that.

        your distinction is a theory that doesn't operate here. and it couldn't because tomorrow somebody you thought was just conservative will say they support Trump etc.

        a better line is us vs harassers. no need to hunt through old posts...

          I asked you what you thought the point of this place was and told you I think it has revolutionary potential to deal with money in our culture and civics. but that would require the masses be here. the too strict norm most embrace here prevents that. so I argue against it and hope that eventually, people agree. others then argue for it too. same with any argument about how things should change and what I think is possible if it does. reasoned persuasion.

            bigots are currently opposing revolutionary potential because they support Fox News lies fed to them by plutocrats. the symbiosis of bigots getting sadism, and plutocrats getting money, keeps that system going

            do you also argue for plutocrats to be here?

            because you're not going to get anything revolutionary with bigoted morons or malicious plutocrats

            so any argument for either to be here is to me nothing but idiocy

              My retort would be ‘That’s not a question, it’s a buzzkill.’

              But then I have just been reading from Pirkei Avot: “Shammai used to say: make your [study of the] Torah a fixed practice; speak little, but do much; and receive all men with a pleasant countenance.” https://www.sefaria.org/Pirkei_Avot.1.15?lang=bi&with=all&lang2=en

                "speak little, but do much"

                i would settle for

                "speak at least coherently, and do the bare minimum"

                because that's the measure we're currently failing on

                  everybody being here or anywhere doesn't mean the bad people have power to fuck with us. that's the whole point of decentralization and no algos/ads or democratic government and enforcing laws.

                  the goal is to get them playing on our fair field, not the one they own. where we don't let the plutocrats have more power or let the bigots abuse anyone. but it has to be fair like that. today fedi is saying hang here till we decide you have bad ideas. then bye.

                    i agree we should grow the fediverse

                    and we should have more normies here

                    but there is a baseline of behavior:

                    no. bigotry.

                    you disagree?

                    that's fine. i do not fucking care. if you think your rationale is so superior, then you federate on that rationale, and you enjoy yourself and i look forward to the WilliamMaggosVerse being a stunning success

                    and i really mean that. no sarcasm. it's fine

                    but:

                    no. bigotry. *here*

                    accept that or fuck off

                      right and you can have democracy where people keep not voting in primaries.

                      or we'll both keep making our cases. and maybe the fedi will change in ways you don't like but I do. maybe you'll change your mind.

                        you're honestly comparing voting in the primaries with letting bigots on the fediverse?

                        this is a real comparison you want to make and you think it is a coherent and valid comparison?

                        people participating in society, and hatebags ripping society apart?

                            99% of people wouldn't even engage you on this bullshit "let bigots into the fediverse"

                            i'm not sure if you don't understand how out there you are, or you know but just don't care

                              @benroyce @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson If harm reduction requires genocide, then no. That's a trap to get people to support people who shouldn't be in power.

                                @mason @Tofu_Golem @mistergibson

                                mason: gaza is experiencing a genocide. so that is what you must deal with. all you are really is saying is "i don't want to deal with reality"

                                well, you need to deal with it. make the choice for harm reduction

                                if someone has thrown up all over themselves are you helping them by saying "i ain't dealing with that" and walking away?

                                maybe you don't feel a need to help them

                                then, according to this analogy, you are saying you don't care about improving the world

                                  We should note that Péter Magyar is far from a Mr. Perfect. For one, he's a staunch conservative who embraces several of Orbán's ideas and program points. However, he's not corrupt, he's not pro-Russian, he's not an autocrat. The Hungarian people know you don't get from hell to heaven in a day and that the first step in getting away from hell is to vote AGAINST hell and FOR whoever is NOT hell. That's precisely what they did, and what America DIDN'T do in November 2024.

                                  This is so true. If you want perfection, you're on the wrong planet.

                                    Right. It's not enough to put the fascists in prison, it's got to be impossible for this disaster to be repeated.

                                      "speak little, but do much"

                                      i would settle for

                                      "speak at least coherently, and do the bare minimum"

                                      because that's the measure we're currently failing on

                                      I grok. If you follow my stuff more closely than anyone actually does, you know that coherence is precisely what I desire to receive and do not generally obtain unless I construct it for myself, if I can manage it.

                                      (And I am running out of time and no one will listen. I suppose this is what William Blake felt like. Whatever the heck he was trying to say. 🙂 )

                                        @benroyce @blotosmetek @Eetschrijver @mistergibson (Background on that is Blake was furiously drawing and writing his famous books on his deathbed, as if the future of Humanity depended on it.)

                                          @ElizabethEiler @BlueDot @mastodonmigration @benroyce I'm quite afraid that Blanche already is the greater evil at DOJ
                                          His dark legacy will make Bondi seem rational by comparison
