@benroyce @EUCommission Why did you call me 'entitled'?

    @jtb @EUCommission

entitlement is not only financial. there is also social entitlement

someone who loudly demands perfect right now, with absolutely zero ability to understand what it takes to work towards better. you don't do the work, what you do is bellyache and call that "work." toxic idealism, often a thinly veiled right wing cosplay troll. or, you are genuinely as you are, and just this authentically clueless and entitled

voices like yours helped the usa become as it is today

@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission jtb is correct in that the Commission is unelected — we only directly elect the representatives in Parliament; and the members of the European Council and Council of the European Union, inasmuch as we have direct influence on our heads of state and ministers. (neither is to be confused with the Council of Europe; I wish the EU changed the name of both). We the citizens have practically zero control over the Commission.

right: they are appointed by people you elect

        so... 🤷

look, criticize all you want. demand better. but work for it, don't just screech online

take it from this american: toxic idealist entitled demands don't achieve anything, and are often a right wing cosplay to redirect attention

the kind of replies i see under the top account i always recognize as the sort of hypercritical perfectionism that led the usa to where it is today

@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission I'm pretty sure their re-re-re-reattempting to implement chat control, their folding to the US, US Big Tech surveillance companies, and to the AI fomo is much, much more dangerous to our Europe and to our democracy, than the "entitled screeching" of citizens rightfully concerned about the Commission — over which, I repeat, we have no direct control or influence — doing things that go against us as citizens.

as an american i'm looking at the collection of thinly veiled right wing trolls and hypercritical toxic idealists responding here

                and i recognize it well

because it was these social media voices that helped kill the usa

people don't understand what they have until they lose it

all they seem to have is an extreme sense of entitlement to *demand* perfect now. and little understanding of what it takes to *work* towards better

@benroyce @richlv @paranormal_distribution@fosstodon.org @EUCommission An example of how to achieve one's goals is a study in how the GOP destroyed America in 45 years. Starting with Ronald Reagan and now with MAGA. Slowly taking over the systems and eroding trust, safety nets, education, and causing real pain, and blaming it on the Democrats. Watching what the EU has done in Europe is remarkable, and hopefully it can continue to serve its people.

@EUCommission I love watching poorly socialised men (shush, you know it) beg for attention under each Eurobarometer post. 😏

Meanwhile, I know who the 🇪🇺 prime mover of being full of shit is. My fellow EUropeans, telling the nice Eurostat caller things that make you feel good about yourself is cheap. Voting is the ultimate revealed preference. And you keep voting for majority majorly shit national governments that keep their knee on the EU's neck.

                    Happy #EuropeDay !

@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission Sure, it's the elected heads of states, and in the other council the ministers appointed by said elected heads of states, but that's just way too many layers — I don't think we can say we have any say in the matter.

Would you say that you, under any US president, have any kind of influence over who your Secretaries are and what they represent? And what they'd represent in an international formation with other Secretaries/Ministers?

they put in "the work" of feeling smug by shouting at social media accounts, because they want perfect now

hen when it comes time to do the real work to show up and achieve their goals, which is dreary because it involves slow movement towards better (perfect isn't on the menu), they are nowhere to be found, because there's no dopamine hit in that

because their real goal is merely satiating their ego

Hi @jtb! The EU is a democracy and this means that you have the right to disagree with us. You can also help shape EU policies directly through tools like the European Citizens’ Initiative and European Citizens’ Panels.

Furthermore, you are directly represented in the European Parliament, which is elected by EU citizens, while EU countries are represented in the Council and the European Council.

@benroyce @phl @EUCommission I didn't declare that I "put in the work". Why is that in quotes? Who are you quoting?

then put in the real work to defeat that obvious evil

don't shout at a social media account and smugly declare that you "put in the work"

@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission Can you call your congresspeople or senators (cf. representatives), or can you call your Secretary (cf. Minister)? I'm pretty sure even in a relatively less insane country you can the former but not the latter.

As such you can't possibly put in "real work" to influence them. You can, however, pressure your reps, who are in Parliament (national or EU), who you can hope they'll take into account your pressure when they vote.
