Nearly three-quarters (72%) of citizens agree: our union brings real benefits.

@richlv @paranormal_distribution@fosstodon.org @EUCommission
as an american i'm looking at the collection of thinly veiled right wing trolls and hypercritical toxic idealists responding here
and i recognize it well
because it was these social media voices that helped kill the usa
people don't understand what they have until they lose it
all they seem to have is an extreme sense of entitlement to *demand* perfect now. and little understanding of what it takes to *work* towards better
@benroyce @richlv @paranormal_distribution@fosstodon.org @EUCommission An example of how to achieve one's goals is a study in how the GOP destroyed America in 45 years. Starting with Ronald Reagan and now with MAGA. Slowly taking over the systems and eroding trust, safety nets, education, and causing real pain, and blaming it on the Democrats. Watching what the EU has done in Europe is remarkable, and hopefully it can continue to serve its people.
-
sure, dismiss me, dismiss my words. on any rationale you desire
you won't heed my warning, ok
learn what us americans know the hard way then
@benroyce @EUCommission Mostly you are calling me names. I have no idea what I am supposed to be learning from you.

Nearly three-quarters (72%) of citizens agree: our union brings real benefits.
The results of our Eurobarometer survey are out:
Trust in the EU to protect democracy is up
Protecting democracy is your #1 reason for trusting us
74% support the euro
60% are optimistic about the EU’s future We’re tackling your top concerns, from cost of living to global security, head on.
The EU has your back.
@EUCommission I love watching poorly socialised men (shush, you know it) beg for attention under each Eurobarometer post.
Meanwhile, I know who the
prime mover of being full of shit is. My fellow EUropeans, telling the nice Eurostat caller things that make you feel good about yourself is cheap. Voting is the ultimate revealed preference. And you keep voting for majority majorly shit national governments that keep their knee on the EU's neck. Happy #EuropeDay !

@benroyce @phl @EUCommission I think criticizing government is perfectly acceptable in a democracy. It's what the press do all the time.
hypercritical voices online serve no political purpose. they only serve the ego of the person doing the hypercriticism
no understanding of doing the work. just standing on perfectionism and shouting demands
this fosters disappointment, disengagement, alienation. feeding the right
it's a psyop
from entitled people. with no idea how precarious the foundations they stand on are
again, i am warning you as an american
go ahead and ignore me. and learn the hard way

@benroyce @phl @EUCommission But you are an hypercritical voice online.

@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission I'm pretty sure their re-re-re-reattempting to implement chat control, their folding to the US, US Big Tech surveillance companies, and to the AI fomo is much, much more dangerous to our Europe and to our democracy, than the "entitled screeching" of citizens rightfully concerned about the Commission — over which, I repeat, we have no direct control or influence — doing things that go against us as citizens.
then put in the real work to defeat that obvious evil
don't shout at a social media account and smugly declare that you "put in the work"

@benroyce @phl @EUCommission I didn't declare that I "put in the work". Why is that in quotes? Who are you quoting?

@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission Sure, it's the elected heads of states, and in the other council the ministers appointed by said elected heads of states, but that's just way too many layers — I don't think we can say we have any say in the matter.
Would you say that you, under any US president, have any kind of influence over who your Secretaries are and what they represent? And what they'd represent in an international formation with other Secretaries/Ministers?
-
@benroyce @EUCommission Mostly you are calling me names. I have no idea what I am supposed to be learning from you.
don't worry about it
i've seen this play out before
people don't listen
they put in "the work" of feeling smug by shouting at social media accounts, because they want perfect now
hen when it comes time to do the real work to show up and achieve their goals, which is dreary because it involves slow movement towards better (perfect isn't on the menu), they are nowhere to be found, because there's no dopamine hit in that
because their real goal is merely satiating their ego
-
@EUCommission I don't agree. And you are unelected. Bring back democracy to the #EU !
Hi @jtb! The EU is a democracy and this means that you have the right to disagree with us. You can also help shape EU policies directly through tools like the European Citizens’ Initiative and European Citizens’ Panels.
Furthermore, you are directly represented in the European Parliament, which is elected by EU citizens, while EU countries are represented in the Council and the European Council. -
@benroyce @phl @EUCommission I didn't declare that I "put in the work". Why is that in quotes? Who are you quoting?
the quotes are to indicate there is no real work put in at all
-
@benroyce @phl @EUCommission But you are an hypercritical voice online.
of hypercriticism
it's not right to disrespect. unless you are disrespecting the disrespectful
it's not right to be intolerant. unless you are intolerant of intolerance
and it's not right to be hypercritical. unless you are hypercritical of hypercriticism
-
then put in the real work to defeat that obvious evil
don't shout at a social media account and smugly declare that you "put in the work"
@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission Can you call your congresspeople or senators (cf. representatives), or can you call your Secretary (cf. Minister)? I'm pretty sure even in a relatively less insane country you can the former but not the latter.
As such you can't possibly put in "real work" to influence them. You can, however, pressure your reps, who are in Parliament (national or EU), who you can hope they'll take into account your pressure when they vote.

-

yes i do. i vote for the president, who appoints the secretaries
i would fancy another system where we also elect the secretaries, there are pluses and minuses to that. it's worth looking into
but what i wouldn't do is shout at the social media account of a us bureaucrat to achieve that, because it's pointless. unless i was more interested in just venting online rather than putting the actual work in to achieve that

@benroyce @phl @EUCommission I don't actually live in the EU. The UK left the EU. Job done.

or even better, use this topic as your voting criteria when you select your reps

@benroyce @jtb @EUCommission The disappointment comes in the repeated actions of the Commission, and not from any kind of psyop I'm afraid.
Emphatically: What you see in most of the comments isn't some anti-EU sentiment fueled by (typically Russia backed) far-right dolts.
It is criticism on the repeated approaches, that one particular, *hard to interact with*, very removed from the People, part of the system is making.
-
@benroyce @phl @EUCommission I don't actually live in the EU. The UK left the EU. Job done.
so then we're both deranged, as we're both butting into eu politics we have no real right to comment on
the difference being i am warning about the perfectionist hypercriticism i see, where it leads, a warning from the american experience
and you are engaging in it
so that certainly places you at a worse position than me
