There are situations in which #kindness, or benefit, on a large scale would require #cruelty, or harm, on a small scale; and vice versa.

Also, situations in which kindness, or benefit, in the present would lead to cruelty, or harm, in the future; and vice versa.

Generally: in which doing good (or bad) from one perspective functionally equals doing bad (or good) from another perspective.

Such tension among perspectives gives rise to difficult moral questions.

I sometimes think about this when I notice social media profiles or posts suggesting that "be kind" is an ideal single principle to live by.
