    hey nonbinary and trans friends!

one of my kids is looking for a binder as they try to find a more gender neutral appearance. any suggestions of reputable places to look for appropriate stuff?

and apologies in advance for clumsiness in asking. just a cis dad trying to not fail his kid

@hex your kid is so relatable πŸ’œ I'm 45 and also wear the same hoodie every day I can.

TomboyX has binders and gender-neutral-ish swimwear. https://tomboyx.com/collections/gender-affirming

@hex binders only work for a couple hours at a time and come with significant tradeoffs for breathing. well-fitting sports bras are ok for all-day wear.
based on the only-hoodie outfit maybe consider talking to your kid about pausing puberty a little while after you get them. that sounds like what we call a dysphoria hoodie

also they loves this hoodie lol. its an old Girr from Invader Zimm throwback with a massive zipper. hoping they don't consider it dysphoric

@hex theFluxion makes very comfy binders made by and for people with sensory issues, especially autism. They're stretchy, comfy, dry fast and are also suitable for swimming, they don't restrict as much as the binders I tried before.

I got my first binder off wish. do not recommend. but the brand spectrum uk is amazing if your kid can tolerate the hard front panel. I could not because of rib issues, so I ended up going with one from the brand forthem. they have leotard material all around. I've since had top surgery but I've heard gc2b has fallen off in recent years, so my advice would be to avoid them

@hex I really like the Underworks ones! https://www.underworks.com/tri-top-chest-binder They're not universally loved because the fabric is somewhat stiff, but I find it more comfortable than softer ones because the tissue doesn't slip around underneath. A properly fitting binder shouldn't restrict breathing and plenty of people wear them all day, at least for reasonable lengths of going to school/work (more: https://www.rainbow-project.org/safe-binding-and-packing/) Even if your kid just wants to try it sometimes for certain outfits, it's still a fun wardrobe option to have!

If you're in a big city it's also possible there's a physical store that will allow trying them on, though that also would be likely to be a sex store so ymmv on how that would be to take your kid there!

@bloodripelives thanks!! we're not so lucky that we'd be able to take them to a store to try stuff on but financially stable enough we could shop around until they find something they like. forwarding them the rainbow project site for sure

@hex binders only work for a couple hours at a time and come with significant tradeoffs for breathing. well-fitting sports bras are ok for all-day wear.
based on the only-hoodie outfit maybe consider talking to your kid about pausing puberty a little while after you get them. that sounds like what we call a dysphoria hoodie

                                          hey nonbinary and trans friends!

one of my kids is looking for a binder as they try to find a more gender neutral appearance. any suggestions of reputable places to look for appropriate stuff?

and apologies in advance for clumsiness in asking. just a cis dad trying to not fail his kid

                                          boosts are welcome and encouraged
