A big weather / radio weekend here - we did a NWS Gray-wide repeater coverage test in advance of convective weather season, and got at least 67 hams across nine repeaters participating. #HamRadio #SKYWARN

@admin Good luck on getting your license! I volunteer for a run here in Vancouver and it's a great way to practice comms skills.

@W6KME @kr1st I try to remember to monitor 146.52 at home, and always have it on when hiking. But I should monitor it more, like when mobile.

@mcdanlj @ai6yr @sarae @ChuckMcManis @rombat I once drilled a hole through a golf ball, tied on some fishing line, and brought a 4-iron as a way of getting a line to the other side of a river during my mountain rescue unit's annual highline training exercise. There was too much brush on my side of the river to even get a clear shot, however. Fifteen years later this still disappoints me.

@mcdanlj Yeah, the ad-hoc Bluesky integrations look more and more like a massive failed experiment. It's not just the tech: there's a big cultural incompatibilty (Bluesky is trying to recreate a nostalgic fantasy of Twitter before ~2022; the fediverse is trying to be unlike Twitter, at any time period).#fediverse #bluesky

@ai6yr I do motorcycle support for a few events here in Oregon. We do less SAG work and more deterrence patrol stuff. There are a couple of our riders who are HAMs, but it's an either/or thing: I'll patrol with them on one event, where we don't use radios, and then two months later I'll see them at an exchange on Hood to Coast operating their radio. When we do have radios, they're Motorola handheld ones (integrated into whatever system the event is using), which most of us pair to our in-helmet comm systems. They are often useless, however, the deeper we get into the hills.

@ai6yr @UkeleleEric @sarae @msbellows And if you *do* manage to stay reasonably warm and dry in the toughest weather and environments we can find, you now have the confidence in yourself and your gear to push through when things get tough and lives *are* actually on the line

@chickpeapole couldn't reach the tippy top without serious parkour I am going to explore other options for getting up there since it's actually where I wanted to place the repeater. will sing that song if I make it.
