Interesting, they're using motorcycle riders who are ham radio operators to support a bicycling event out here (Ventura County, California).

"...I’m helping through another group (MARC - Motorcycling Amateur Radio Club) in assisting the Multiple Sclerosis folks with their event at the end of May - MS Los Angeles - Coastal Challenge. They have a 2 day event in Ventura on May 30-31. Basically a bicycle event to raise funds for MS - around the Ventura area and up to Ojai and back.
They’ve looking for SAG (Support and Gear) drivers to help out the riders - providing pumps, patches and rides for breakdowns (“sagging”). They’re even offering rental vehicles and rooms for anyone willing to help.
MARC will be running a net control alongside the MS folks and will have some motorcycles on the course. So, having SAG drivers that are hams would be a bonus - but not required.
Please contact me directly off list if you’re interested in helping out with this worthy event.
Thanks in advance,
John, N6JCB.."

@ai6yr I do motorcycle support for a few events here in Oregon. We do less SAG work and more deterrence patrol stuff. There are a couple of our riders who are HAMs, but it's an either/or thing: I'll patrol with them on one event, where we don't use radios, and then two months later I'll see them at an exchange on Hood to Coast operating their radio.
When we do have radios, they're Motorola handheld ones (integrated into whatever system the event is using), which most of us pair to our in-helmet comm systems. They are often useless, however, the deeper we get into the hills.
