Even if you assume that the intentions behind it are benevolent (which is a clear "no" for #X, and a strong "maybe" for Bluesky), such a system represents a black box - you do not actually know whether the system actually filters posts in a way that is best for you.I prefer to stick with a timeline-based system.

As a self-hoster, everything is as fast/slow as usual for me, but since most accounts I follow are hosted on Mastodon Social, the timeline has felt a bit unpopulated for sure. Projects like @HolosSocial will certainly help by making the #Fediverse even more distributed, although the relay remains an attackable chokepoint for malicious actors.

@dataplane but a widely distributed and fully federated platform should be highly resilient to DDoS attacks...

@faraiwe @ikuturso @mcc It does seem like people are jumping through hoops to use a network that is very hard, if even feasible, to federate, when a relatively simple effective solution exists.

I want to applaud @rose.bsky.team and @mellifluousbox for appearing on stage together and expressing a desire to cooperate. As I've said for a long time, #Bluesky and #Mastodon, #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol should not be fighting each other. The real opposition are the oligarch-controlled, enshittified, manipulating major commercial platforms. We have no chance of making a dent into their dominance if the revolution fights itself instead.
