Apparently mastodon.social is undergoing a massive #DDoS that brought it down, which may or may not be related to the disservice experienced by #BlueSky last week. Of course, this being the #Fediverse, the only measurable effect for the majority of Fedizens will be some reduction of traffic on their timelines, depending on which fraction of their followings are on that instance.
And this is why #ActivityPub, with all its deficiencies, is still better than #ATProto.

As a self-hoster, everything is as fast/slow as usual for me, but since most accounts I follow are hosted on Mastodon Social, the timeline has felt a bit unpopulated for sure. Projects like @HolosSocial will certainly help by making the #Fediverse even more distributed, although the relay remains an attackable chokepoint for malicious actors. -
