Is there a tutorial out there for how to port my .social instance to a new location? Thanks for the help, and keep up the good work! #NewbsDoingNewbThings
Yes, several, but here is a very good one by @FediTips, who is also usually available to answer specific questions you might have.

οΈGood day to try Mastodon. We won't bite.
Join a server. We call them instances. Here are few great choices:
mstdn.social: https://mstdn.social/auth/sign_up A really great choice! EU based and run by @stux. Cats!
Vivaldi: https://social.vivaldi.net/about Yes, Vivaldi the browser, but you don't need the browser.
infosec.exchange: https://infosec.exchange/auth/sign_up Techies! Run by @jerry
Or just go to https://joinmastodon.org and pick one. It is hard to go wrong.
@mastodonmigration @stux @jerry I'm on masto.ai and I have no complaints. I don't know what the ".ai" stands for, but it isn't the AI we all love to hate.
I also have an account on fedi.at - it's an Austrian server but it allows toots in English and it has a 5,000 character limit. I have a pixelfed account but don't use it much.

@wiredfire @mastodonmigration Believe me, I know that and I did this on purpose this time.
He looks like a spokesperson for mastodon but he simply cannot pick up peoples needs. I had debates with him in the past. Short ones.
What I have learned here in more than five years is, that communication with administrators, for instance, are very hard to come by.
But everybody is very quick with the block feature. (1/3)
So tell me, what kind of social network is this? And keep in mind that I am by far not the only person. Quite many tried mastodon in the past and they were scared away.
I for myself may be a bit resilient β¦

From a technical standpoint, the #fediverse is great. But itβs highly immature and for some it is toxic.
For starting an account, it is not reliable as long as you are not willing to host your own server. (2/3)

@AndyGER @mastodonmigration
Right, however as the other person whoβs since blocked you noted youβre trying to force that debate into a thread / space that itβs nothing to do with. Thatβs unlikely to get you in front of the people up for a good-faith conversation on the topic and comes off as combative and / or entitled so becomes something of a self-fulfilling gripe.@wiredfire @mastodonmigration Believe me, I know that and I did this on purpose this time.

There are many great servers. Almost all of them, in fact. Just recommending a few options for newcomers to overcome that initial fear of choosing.

@mastodonmigration @stux @jerry Yeah thanks for making the effort. There are a few nice accounts for newcomers to follow. Yours. @FediTips is another one.

Another interesting option is to try Wafrn, a really cool unique application that connects to both Bluesky and the Fedi. Apparently Wafrn has not skipped a beat during these #Bluesky outages.

This is solid advice. Unfortunately, many Bluesky users are not likely to see it, unless they are already here.

@mastodonmigration hey, and if you happen to be queer, check out LGBTQIA.space!
We're friendly, well-moderated, and pretty darn gay
