Has anyone here used infrared headphones?(like the kind used by some TVs/car stereos)Or have any schematics/plans/references? I'm trying to build or acquire a pair (transmitter and receiver), I think I can use a microcontroller for transmit but i don't think that will cut it for receiving the (supposedly) FM signal. @konstruct VPN is literally whatever classifies as a Virtual Private Network.A VPN could be a fake overlay network that allows you to connect to a gateway (router) hosted on some company's server so that all your internet traffic is routed there (what you're probably thinking of as the commercial variety)Or it could just be a way to connect to your home devices that are on the same VPN, or all of your home if the VPN endpoint you connect to also routes to the LAN there..or both at once.

As per normal...Everything does TLS these days so there would not be much of a difference if you are specifically concerned about surveillance of "the last mile" network.

@timixretroplays I'm currently leaning towards carrying a raidz2 copy of my home backup in my backpack, as that would technically count as offsite. Seems slightly safer compared to VPS provider error/hw failure, and I/O will never suck.

is anyone here using the procamera app for the iphone?and if so, have you noticed that image sharpness has deteriorated significantly since the most recent update (a couple of days ago for me)?this is what i use for my sculpture photos as i had to sell my real camera, and it's been great. but the results of yesterday's photography are ... poor. i could see it at the time and reshot everything, but while it all looks ok through the viewfinder, it really doesn't afterwards. i've fiddled with file formats and settings but i can't seem to fix it ...thank you! #askFedi #photography

@scott Are you looking for something that doesn’t use one of the big cloud providers or something that doesn’t use *any* cloud services? For zero cloud, If you’re comfortable with the self-hosting, BitWarden seems to be what most of the folks I know are using. If you’re okay with cloud services that just aren’t AWS, Azure, or GCP, then Proton Pass is pretty great and you get it packaged with the paid Proton mail services which is convenient.

@jupiter Yeah, if I do go down this route - and it's a big if - it wouldn't just be a case of feeding my script into kokoro or whatever and having done with it. I'd go through the same workflow I did when I had the energy to record. Iterate on the output, re-record sections that sound bad, get it spot on. I've always felt that if I don't put my time into making it, why should I expect someone to spend their time watching it?
