@the there is a desire among the SV elite to push us all off of general purpose computers, and onto their locked-down phones and tabs. In parts of the world that never had the critical mass of general purpose machines that we Western grew up with, the flood of phones was the moment of mass tech adoption, and in those places, the idea that PCs are the outlier is easy to spread, and they do spread it. The last thing they want is more people having their own technological agency. There's dangerous levels of complacency afoot, even entertaining this idea.
