    @dave @saltywizard @skinnylatte

    what is our problem is nuking bigot accounts

    not as some "how to entice black people to the fediverse" weird moustache twirling scheme

    just as a function of who we are

    if anyone comes or does not come after that has no relevance

    just: fuck bigots. just because. beginning and ending of discussion

    @benroyce @dave @saltywizard @skinnylatte Nuking not only bigot accounts but also the instances where sucky moderation allows bigots to take residence.

            @skinnylatte there's a special flavor on Mastodon: "if you call me racist, you're transphobic".

              @saltywizard @skinnylatte
              Better moderation.

              and

              Fix "followers only" replies, so they go to the followers of the person who started the thread. As it is, each reply set to followers only is sent out to the followers of the person who made the reply. Bigots use this to post hate that only the victim and other bigots see, so they can all join in the attack

                      Fellow white people:
                      If you've ever said "Believe women" but then posted this kind of response to a Black woman, SHAME, SHAME on you.
                      @skinnylatte

                      And if you don't think you should believe women, fuck off.

                        @skinnylatte this is an important point. Thank you. I’ve seen that as well.

                        Bluesky is very wealthy white centric. Now with a private equity CEO & AI I am thinking it will become more exclusive

                        Mastodon is very white European centric. It still has the potential to be more inclusive with time.

                        @oldredsubby @skinnylatte It is important to recognize that the lived experiences of Black Americans, are distinct from the 1.6 billion people globally with whom they share partial ancestry. Conflating isolated viewpoints as the collective position of all, erroneously constructs a monolithic narrative.

                            @maxleibman @skinnylatte My guess, admittedly having no involvement with Blacksky and likely missing some technical details, is something to do with how server federating works with ActivityPub vs ATProto

                                    @saltywizard @skinnylatte For one, you give people here the tools they need to moderate their own conversations. Bluesky has been doing a lot on this front, and I think that's a big reason why, even though bsky isn't perfect for Black folks either, it's definitely doing a lot better.

                                    You also make this place generally more accessible. It might not feel like it to the average techie, but some people feel you practically need a CS degree to be on here with how complicated the experience can be.

                                      @rrb @skinnylatte don't know you dude but the first step is not to ask nonwhite people to help you learn not to alienate other nonwhite people (this is a genuine answer)

                                      in other practical steps, please follow more Black users (and users of color in general) and think about and boost their posts. if you aren't sure the joke or whatever you want to make is going to land, if you don't know them in general, reply less. decide not to.

                                      if racial dynamics confuse you, you should read some books too.

                                        some people here are like 'i'm color blind i don't know what color anyone is'

                                        well maybe you are the problem

                                        'color blindness' is wilful racism

                                          My dude, people are talking about their personal experiences. "The premise is still nonsensical" is still dismissive of their explicitly stated personal experience. This is exactly the kind of response (repeated dozens of times) that drives people away. Please try to listen.
