    1861-05-03 General Winfield Scott presents his Anaconda Plan for the North against the South in American Civil War. However, politicians and military officers, thought this strategy was too cautious. The press dubbed it the “Anaconda Plan” like the snake’s ability to slowly kill its prey by choking it to death.

      @obtener Did the politicians and military officers who rejected the Anaconda Plan as too cautious ever regret that decision later in the war?

        @hannaB
        By 1864, when General Grant became overall Union commander, he put Scott's Anaconda plan in place. Grant sent Sherman south to Georgia, Gens. Hooker and Roscrans to TN, and Grant went with Gen. Meade into Virginia.

          @obtener So the Anaconda Plan was basically the long game, and by 1864 it was clear that was the only way to win. Makes you wonder how much blood and treasure could have been saved if they’d listened to Scott from the start.
