The press dubbed it the “Anaconda Plan” like the snake’s ability to slowly kill its prey by choking it to death.

Makes you wonder how much blood and treasure could have been saved if they’d listened to Scott from the start.

By 1864, when General Grant became overall Union commander, he put Scott's Anaconda plan in place. Grant sent Sherman south to Georgia, Gens. Hooker and Roscrans to TN, and Grant went with Gen. Meade into Virginia.
