Question for #Blind and maybe also #LowVision folks: are there any #VideoGames or #mobile #games that are particularly good? Is there a blind game design scene?

I know there are tactile dice and things for some tabletop RPGs and things. While I’m especially curious about digital or video games, I’d also love to hear about more analog examples that are great!

@b_cavello There aren't really many. Sadly, we lost Brandon Cole who was a huge advocate in this space, but there are a few. Both Last of Us Games, the latest remasters. As Dusk Falls. Mortal Kombat One, and that's about it. Brock the Investigator is another one and Forsa Motorsport

@b_cavello “Can I Play That” (CIPT) website has game reviews that includes ones that are accessible for blind folks.
        They rate these games highly:
The Last of Us Part 2
        Sequence Storm
        Gears Tactics
The Vale: Shadow of the Crown
        Sea of Thieves
        https://caniplaythat.com/?s=Blind+games

CIPT also have a yearly competition for games by Blind gamers: these were the results: https://caniplaythat.com/2026/03/20/the-top-rated-games-from-games-for-blind-gamers-5/

@dhamlinmusic @WeirdWriter @b_cavello There are so many mods that make games accessible, actually. Rimworld, the final fantasy games up to 6, 7 is being worked on, Stardew Valley, Magic, the gathering arena, Hearthstone, and that's only the ones I know about.

@dhamlinmusic @WeirdWriter @b_cavello Oh yeah, Dragonball, Sparking 0 now has a mod that makes everything read, including the shop, all character screens, settings, and even indicators during the fights like skill points, kai energy levels, health, and quicktime events.

                @b_cavello
Some ren’Py-based Visual Novels (somewhat ironically given the name) have great self-narration, including visual scene descriptions if provided by the author. We’re sighted, but I tried playing one that explicitely advertised the self-narration in the description blindly and was amazed how well it captured everything on screen – including contextual details I had failed to see. Of course, the experience will be that of an interactive book read to you – visual novels are like that.

Also, many ren’Py based games not explicitely advertising the self-voicing feature will still be playable unless they use custom interactive scenes, but will likely lack the visual context descriptions, so you’ll only get to hear the dialog and narration lines. It should still make for a nice experience though: the visuals generally only add further depth to the experience but are generally illustrative rather than mandatory. You’d also still get to still hear all the contextual music and sound effects.

@ater @b_cavello Oh hey, I was summoned! I replied directly to the thread with all our links, thanks for thinking of me! I don't post on here nearly as much as I used to, but we just did jam wrap up stuff last year so lots of cool games to check out! We had some absolute bangers. I'm trying to figure out how to get everyone to steal an accessibility feature from onw of the winners cause it was so good.

The American Federation for the Blind (#AFB) lists some examples of products under their Games and Activities section, but it’s pretty limited, and some of the links are broken/outdated.

@b_cavello May take a few replies so please bear with me.

Most of the games for blind/VI people are accessible versions of card, dice, puzzle, and word games. There are also some audio versions of games like Breakout. A company called Blindfold Games makes a ton of these, and others.

                                      Just a moment...

@b_cavello There are also MUDs, basically text-based MMORPG-style games. The most popular among blind people is Alteraeon, which I play quite a bit these days. There's a custom windows client for blind players that includes sound effects and a lot of customizability to make the game more immersive and accessible.
