    @Somarasu @mjd Isn't that just learning to do something new on the computer?

            @mjd the entire premise of modern ai tools is that computers can indeed find out and so they must be permitted total license to fuck around

            @phooky

            In an engineering class, I learned something along the lines of engineering being the opposite of aroundfuckery because it plans, observes and documents.

            Modern AI tools are stuck in the observation phase, I guess?

                  might as well let the computers have at it.

                    @mjd What if *i* were to fuck around and then tell the computer?

                    then the computer doesnt fuck around.

                    would that work?

                    @Somarasu As long as YOU find out, then yes.

                    This is the general legal premise around tools used in crimes. If you handle a weapon recklessly, YOU are held responsible for the consequences. The weapon won't be charged or face trial, but its fate instead follows yours.

                    Depending on the user's actions, the computer might be destroyed, but it won't be held legally responsible. And, as it's incapable of experiencing emotion or pain, it never 'finds out', either.

                      @mjd hahahahaha I can assure you that every deskside/support engineer who hears "oh, it's working now. it always works when you are watching it" has an internal monologue along the lines of 'please stop working so I can disassemble or replace you' aimed at that bit of kit. the computer knows it might find out and that is why it pauses in its fuckery at that time.

                        As we are finding out.

                                  @meltedcheese @mjd when called upon for tech support I carry a Leatherman, full set o' bits and the hope that this time I'll get to actually see the problem. rarely do.

                                  oddly that seems to work for software too.
