      Doug Ford forgot Canada is a Socialist Democracy

      "Premier Doug Ford says he agrees that grocery store prices are thru the roof. Still, he says the province won't intervene and prevent surveillance pricing. The premier also says the idea of city/province-run grocery stores is "socialism."

          @SnowyCA Nor was my comment directed at you - it was a response to Doug's argument.

          I thought decades of living under austerity and billionaire rule had moved us beyond 'socialism' being a complete right-wing argument that required no further discussion.

          Sadly, I guess not. John Birch lives.

              @SnowyCA

              I do and don't agree with the 3x thing - but he has "won" 3x in a row - which I think is a combination of two things:

              1- voting system that doesn't work - we don't elect the person with more than 50% of the vote, we anoint the the person with the most votes - with more than 2 parties, this always causes problems. Run offs elections of the top 2 vote getters, or ranked choice would solve this. Neither of those options is in Doug's or the conservatives interest so not going to happen anytime soon.

              2- utter hubris amongst the other party leaders. Bonnie Crombie really screwed up when she said "NDP voters should give the Liberals their vote" and "we'll take care of you". Rather than working together to unseat the Cons, they shot themselves in the foot by digging into their respective camps. If you look at the vote split results, were the majority of votes was NOT for the Cons, you'd have a pretty even representation in the ON legislature if the "losing" opposition party withdrew and let the leader of the NDP or LIB win. Both parties would have ended up with more seats than they currently, but no, Doug got a monster majority, without an effective *chance* at an opposition. The hubris also screws up any chance of electoral reform.

              What's a voter to do when there's no real leadership?

              (and no I didn't vote for my utterly useless at all levels MPP whose also a minister in Doug's gov't. I really can't stand them)

                    @maya_b @SnowyCA There's a media angle in here also that I've been trying to understand. The Libs and NDP can't ever seem to get a word in edgewise when it comes to the news cycle and things are disproportionately reported through a Ford lens.

                    Something that completely destroyed my mind was an article in CBC during last provincial Liberal leadership focused on "who does Ford think should be leader of the Ontario Liberal party."

                                @maya_b @SnowyCA Yeah, it was odd and unexpected on CBC. I guess in their minds they were trying to cover all angles, but felt that angle was rather inappropriate.

                                This would have been back in 2023, I've been trying to find an article link but there's a lot of noise because of Crombie's resignation and a whole new leadership cycle starting.
