@tsrono @oscillik @eczem not abandoned, but the latest update "improved" the GUI with this non-skeuomorphic scheme that hides some of the info unless you mouseover, I hate it (comparison below). so far the old one is still usable...

Bidule doesn't seem to have many users tho, the devs are pretty clear it's a side project / never officially been "1.0." so idk, at this point I feel like PD will always be maintained & might eventually be necessary if MacOS or Plogue themselves break more stuff

@tsrono @oscillik @eczem it's got its pros and cons! part of the reason is just learning time for any of the alternatives. it's easy to learn, and easy to group subpatches together and make linked presets for performance, that's a big thing for me. but the GUI options are pretty bad compared to any of the alternatives, and getting worse with updates. I might eventually learn PD for longevity's sake.

@tsrono @oscillik @eczem I use Plogue Bidule all the time, it's a Max/Reaktor-type program. have a big groovebox type patch I've been gradually iterating in there for the last 10 years or so of shows and releases.

@tsrono I watched it recently, it’s refreshing as an adult who finds star trek’s utopia too militaristic and regimented to get into. criminals only, plus Florida Man astronaut! a lot of filler but a lot of weird creativity/insightfulness too.

the sets never at any moment look real, but they’re pretty fun and inspiring on a design level. and I kinda cheered every episode that the CGI got slightly more ambitious.

@tsrono this is like if Apple TV remade Farscape but still mandated that it look clean and Apple-y

@grahamdunning sounds like a great time, the two venues in one thing is always a good idea. some of the more well known Brooklyn DIY venues did that when I lived there, like Silent Barn, Fitness and Trans Pecos, not to mention bigger more commercial clubs.

@tsrono yeah for some of the meandering conversational servers mastodon would be a really similar experience, I think.

it is for sure the worst way they could be trying to implement this, way beyond "compliance" to inviting big brother into the room.

there are a few creative/professional group chats I'm on between Signal and Whatsapp. I don't think it could work for everything, but for some of the slower and more focused servers I'm in, it would be great.

@incentive tbh after reading the matrix/discord comparison on the official matrix site, I don't feel all that comfortable with their moderation abilities. for example people get notified if they're banned even before joining a community, or maintain privileges if they leave and come back, it seems ripe for abuse. haven't read much about Stoat but heard it's kinda unfinished?

if everyone really wants to avoid surveillance I think it might just be down to starting Signal groups instead.
