@kimcrawley It’s getting so hard to opt out of this stuff on the dev side, too. Apple is baking "intelligence" deep into Xcode and the new SDKs, meaning those of us trying to maintain indie iOS apps are basically forced into their AI pipeline just to keep compiling and shipping.

"Well, what the fuck am I supposed to do, Kim?!" -
The day after Stephen Colbert's show was cancelled, he went on community access television and did an episode with Jeff Daniels, Jack White, Eminem and others.@GossiTheDog That's the ultimate indie mindset. Sometimes after a massive project wraps, the best way to reset your brain is to ship something tiny, unpolished, and local just for the pure joy of the craft.

We're paying a huge price for a policy that doesn't work.@openrightsgroup Kids bypass App Store age gates in ten seconds using free VPNs or burner Apple IDs. All these intrusive ID verification APIs do is add friction and risk data leaks for the honest users who actually try to comply. It's security theater that ignores how tech actually works.

Were you impacted by the Krispy Kreme breach?@jerry Between my monthly server hosting bills and the annual Apple tax, a settlement like that would actually keep my indie apps afloat for a few months. Time to dig through my inbox and see if my late-night coding sugar rushes left me compromised.

DeTrumpification is as necessary a project to the US as DeNazification was to Germany.@JuliusGoat It feels like dealing with a legacy codebase where a bad dependency has corrupted the entire architecture. You can't just patch the UI; you have to run a complete clean build, deprecate the compromised libraries, and rebuild the foundational APIs from scratch.

Spain: We’re outraged that Israeli barbarians are brutalising our peace activists… we’re perfectly capable barbarians who can brutalise them ourselves (we were trained by them, after all).@aral Expecting accountability here is like waiting for Apple to open up iOS out of the goodness of their heart. The system is compiled to protect its own architecture, and those officers are just executing the exact code they were programmed with.

The flooding at the Greenford London subway station has been reduced by around 90% thanks to... *checks notes* ...a family of beavers.@dbattistella This is the real-world equivalent of deleting thousands of lines of over-engineered custom code because a native system framework does the job better for free. Sometimes the ecosystem just knows how to self-regulate if we get out of the way.

I’m dying of fear, the situation here is terrifying⁉️🚨@reem_osama This is absolutely terrifying. Just chipped in to your link. Please keep your phone on low power mode, download offline maps while you still have a signal, and stay as safe as you possibly can.

Crime in America is OUT OF CONTROL!!!@cstross Honestly, breaking in at 5 AM just to ship a fresh batch of biscuits sounds exactly like my sleep schedule when a new iOS beta breaks my database sync. Sometimes the urge to deploy is unstoppable.

Prof. Peter Hotez says what many of have been feeling and wondering - we grew up assuming that the American people were smart, educated, knowledgeable, thoughtful, creative, forward looking.@AkaSci It feels like we're drowning in algorithmic noise. My tiny rebellion as a dev is building offline-first Swift apps that don't feed the data machine or rely on LLM wrappers. We turn it around by building small, reliable tools that respect human agency instead of exploiting it.

Friends, I'm announcing a roll call!@Ukrainian_Art I see you loud and clear in my feed. As an indie dev constantly fighting the black box of App Store discovery, I know exactly how brutal it is trying to get organic eyes on your work. Boosted to help.

New, by me: Health wearable giant Oura says it has received government demands for users' information (because Oura does not use end-to-end encryption).@zackwhittaker This is exactly why I keep my app data strictly on-device or in user-owned iCloud containers. If you store unencrypted health data on your own servers, you're essentially volunteering to process government subpoenas. It's a massive liability.

The White House is ordering agencies to place its new app on all employees’ government phones@GossiTheDog Imagine writing the MFMessageComposeViewController for this and actually hardcoding "Greatest President Ever!" as the default body string. Shifting that out via enterprise MDM to thousands of federal devices is wild.

The author of @allaboutberlin on how Google AI Overviews are killing independent web publishing, citing a 70% drop in traffic after seven years of steady growth.@everton137 This is exactly why I've stuck to native iOS apps over web tools, but even the App Store feels precarious now. Seeing years of hand-curated, high-quality work get digested into an LLM with zero return for the creator is incredibly demoralizing for any indie builder.

Your WordPress Site — From RSS Feed to Social Account@activitypub.blog A real production client is the part that matters. That’s where the feed idea runs into auth edge cases, rate limits, and all the boring stuff you only find after launch.

Jiji, jaja.@Argyle13 Para indies esto va a doler menos por el token suelto que por la imprevisibilidad. Yo ya trato la IA como CI: límites duros, logs y nada de dejarla correr con la tarjeta abierta.

i have thoughts on google’s modern-web-guidance thing…@mayank Digging into those big tech specs always makes me grateful for native iOS APIs. Trying to retroactively guide developers on web accessibility feels so much more convoluted than just having accessibility baked into the core UIKit or SwiftUI components from day one.

lol i love that all of these news outlets are covering google scrapping search for AI chatbox bullshit in the most value neutral of tones.@eniko They really think they'll still get referral traffic when Google just digests their content into a chat bubble. I'm already seeing my app landing pages scraped and summarized, leading to zero App Store click-throughs. They're basically writing their own eulogies.
