Experimenting with drop caps on my blog, straddling the line between text-focused minimalism and whimsy!The drop cap font I'm using on the desktop version is called Medieval Alphabet Font. I was originally using Nouveau Drop Caps, which is a little more readable, but not as stereotypically "medieval." I decided to use Nouveau Drop Caps for the mobile version of my site, as the more ornate styling of Medieval Alphabet Font doesn't really work on smaller screens.#PersonalWeb #SmallWeb #IndieWeb #WebDesign #Medieval #Manuscript

One of the things I love most about the personal web is not being beholden to conventional web development practices. Case in point: I *could* have used JavaScript to build a tag filtering system for my links page, but I used YAML and Liquid instead, because why not? This question goes out to #IndieWeb and GeoCities era website lovers:Is there a collection site that allows users to submit and tag blinkies, 88x31, stamps, and so on? I have yet to find one, but the web is largeLove the format revival, but it is difficult finding a collection that makes it searchable by tags to quickly find things of interest to throw on one’s site. @rasterweb Those companies imitated past media, which were also subsidized, first by massive investment capital (earned by monopolies in other industries), and later by advertising.The mass market hates to pay directly for communication (or other infrastructure). They prefer to pay through inflation in prices of material goods. An invisible, private tax. Almost a kind of laundering—the advertising tax is blended with the "real" costs. Just like the profit tax, come to think of it.
