I've been critical of the way the @verge has been covering the development of HBO's upcoming Harry Potter reboot. -
Actually exhausted by the age verification shit.Actually exhausted by the age verification shit. I’m done with fighting it I think. Honestly don’t see an end to it without a serious social and political shift/revolution. The kind where the people who architected and implemented it end up in prison for the rest of their lives.

it's a "smashing it down with rain/sleet but still generating 1kW" weird sort of day.@WooShell =[ probably asked before but no local options?

GrapheneOS will remain usable by anyone around the world without requiring personal information, identification or an account.@GrapheneOS good on you. Don't give in to the fascists and fearmongers.

people on reddit are doing a whole lot of yapping about age verification in Linux@cas this is open source, we're never going to have a billion dollar lobby or enough political pressure to change this stuff. But we can fight. If you live in the U.S., in California, and you are the main maintainer of a distro, then you have a decision to make about how to proceed. That's it. Anything beyond that, especially actions by European residents supporting this crap is purely proactive compliance with a law that doesn't affect them at all.

people on reddit are doing a whole lot of yapping about age verification in Linux@cas nobody compelled
systemdto do this. Some commenters on the original PR made that much clear.Nothing/nobody compelled
systemdto do this. It was a choice to make this easier for others. Greasing the wheels of this awful concept. -
people on reddit are doing a whole lot of yapping about age verification in Linux@cas so basically:
"well, if we're going to slide into fascism and real-id laws, might as well make it user-friendly!"
nope, nope nope nope. Fight this shit every step of the way. Couldn't disagree more strongly with every single thing you've said.
Principles matter, my man. Sometimes they don't make sense, they don't fit in nicely with how an ideal world should be, sometimes they make things more difficult. That's the nature of boycotts, of refusal, of being led by your heart and not by your brain sometimes.

All together now: fuck systemdIt's an optional field in the userdb JSON object. It's not a policy engine, not an API for apps. We just define the field, so that it's standardized iff people want to store the date there, but it's entirely optional.
Lie by omission here. Clearly the reason for this being added is AV. Imagine it was a "
sexualOrientationor "ethnicBackground" field that just got added because$governmentsuddenly made that sort of thing a hot topic... "oh it's just part of the JSON schema, it's not up to us to decide how people use those fields! Fuck off.systemdshould have no knowledge of any of that. It's irrelevant to the operation of the system.Playing into the hands of fascists and he knows it and doesn't want it discussed or highlighted.

If SQL is pronounced "sequel" then surely DNS is pronounced "Dennis"?@greem yeah that's the best thing I've read all day. Calling it Denice for ever now.

Ofcom is undertaking a paid survey for people who work for companies in scope of the UK #OnlineSafetyAct.@aphyr for sure. I think I’ve been jaded by any involvement I have had with them though. It’s just staffed by people who either believe their own hype and are actively invested in this attack on freedom of expression, or people who are ambivalent and just there for the cushy job/pension. Talking to them has achieved precisely nothing so far, try as many of us did to change things. I think energy is better spent either protecting ourselves from them (driving more people to decentralised platforms and out of their reach) or undermining their efforts in any legal way possible.

Ofcom is undertaking a paid survey for people who work for companies in scope of the UK #OnlineSafetyAct.@aphyr We're constantly told by people "Ofcom have no choice in this, they're just poor innocent victims that have to enforce a law set down by idiots". Frankly, why even bother engaging with them if that's the case? Reminded of a famous lecture - "Don't Talk To The Police".

This is a thing?!@twipped definitely thought these were LED COBs at first.

Back on this, Systems Thinking- specifically Systems Dynamics - is what MIT scientists used to model planetary resource depletion in "The Limits to Growth in 1972.@jim sounds like something one of my old bosses would have gone to a motivational seminar on and come back as a total zealot for. Probably what has happened here.

Okay, let's not just complain about companies but also point out the cool things@G33KatWork yeah, buying this hurt, but... not as much as spending most of my waking life sat in a shit chair will. Has quickly ended up being one of the best things I've ever bought.
-
Okay, let's not just complain about companies but also point out the cool things@G33KatWork Herman Miller seem like one of those companies that still does things the old way. Hasn't been rotted to the core by people intent on gouging every last bit of profit out even at the cost of making a shittier product or providing shittier service.
