Based on what Gary Gygax said and my #toee investigations, I think the idea would have been 2 different routes to get to the end game.

    FIRST WAY
Giant series G1 G2 G3 then drow series
    D1 D2 D3

Can not get to Q1 (Gary's version) unless you get to level 4 of Temple of Elemental Evil and accidentally release the Elder Elemental God to get the 4 elemental keys to unlock the way to Q1 (Gary's version)

Seems like the end of D3 would just plop you down at level 4 of Temple of Elemental Evil and then somehow go on to Q1.

    SECOND WAY
    T1 Vilage of Hommlet
    The Ruined Moathouse

Fight through 3 levels of the Temple of Elemental Evil

Then you get to level 4, accidentally release the Elder Elemental God to get the 4 elemental keys to unlock the way to Q1 (Gary's version)

  • Hot take: Paladins should not be able to turn the undead.
    randomwizard@social.vivaldi.netR randomwizard@social.vivaldi.net

@DM_Zeppelin @phf I would say on the cleric paladin split, that I think the real class archetype for cleric should be "priest" and they are not allowed to wear armor, much like magic-user.

Also, from looking at the Dungeon! boardgame, and many video games (Dragon Age comes to mind), the real core character concepts to my mind are

    Fighter (weapons)
    Thief (sneak skills)
    Spellcaster (spells)

And a cleric is just a spellcaster.

@DM_Zeppelin I sort of have a love/hate relationship to paladin as a class. I like the idea of it making players easily play for/against tropes (holy knight with a cause).

But there is something mary sue about the class, like elf fighter/magic users that I do not like.

Also, I, lately (more like for quite a few years now), do not want to make up psuedo religions for my campaigns. But that is just some personal preference.

  • I was interested in what a real topographic map would look like compared to the overland maps in B2 The Keep on the Borderlands and L1 The Secret of Bone Hill.

I was interested in what a real topographic map would look like compared to the overland maps in B2 The Keep on the Borderlands and L1 The Secret of Bone Hill. Grabbed a public domain topographic map and started tracing it.

This is just the first couple of hours of work on it. Tedious. Not sure if I will finish it out as some complete map as it is just an experiment.

B1 and L1 maps are very basic and smooth compared to most real topographic maps.

  • Howard Hughes wanted to make a wooden aircraft twin engine fighter in 1937.
    randomwizard@social.vivaldi.netR randomwizard@social.vivaldi.net

Howard Hughes wanted to make a wooden aircraft twin engine fighter in 1937. It would have used Duramold which is a composite material process where birch or poplar plies are impregnated with phenolic resin and laminated together in a mold under heat. The general idea is similar to what the British started thinking of making in 1937 and led to the Mosquito (Image 1) Hughes D-2 would have been more smooth and used twin booms. There are not many images of the D-2 (Image 2).

The US army airforce were not enthused about using wood in aircraft. The role of fast twin engine fighter made out of metal was filled by the Lockheed P-38 (Image 3).

Hughes gave up making the D-2 out of wood, and started working on a metal twin engine designated XF-11. There are photographs of Hughes testing the XF-11(Image 4).

In senate hearing testimony, Hughes claimed that the USAAF stole his idea for a twin engine boom aircraft.
