  • Today a PM on my team showed the team a fancy dashboard they had built with AI on my request.
    pixelpusher220@dmv.communityP pixelpusher220@dmv.community

    @jillL @carnage4life Claude will only too happily reclaim something it deployed 6 weeks ago and now that dashboard is toast.

    All this jazz over written language prompts being the future only leads me to ST:TNG Moriarty episodes when LaForge accidentally creates a Sherlock Holmes program capable of defeating *Data*.

    Whoopsie.

  • WebinarTV hosts 200,000 “webinars.”

    “WebinarTV is a ... good internet citizen. We only want to promote webinars that want more viewers.

    If a copyright owner or a person authorized to act on the owner’s behalf requests content to be removed,

    then WebinarTV will promptly remove it."

    Good news Pirates! You can be a good internet citizen and only remove copyrighted work IF contacted!

    Sadly this will be the tip of the iceberg me thinks

  • Just so we’re 1000% clear: no state or local government should be giving financial incentives to build a data center.
    pixelpusher220@dmv.communityP pixelpusher220@dmv.community

    @erosalie In our fight here in the datacenter capital of NoVA, I spoke out at a meeting about the noise issues.

    "A hospital makes noise at all hours, but if you live next to one...you live next door to a hospital.

    A grocery store makes noise...but you can walk to get food.

    The VRE (commuter rail) makes a LOT of noise, but you have good access to mass transit.

    A bar/restaurant makes noise...but you live next to walkable culture.

    A data center makes noise.....and gives us NOTHING literally any other business would provide.

    Trade offs are made for better society. Data centers offer nothing unique in that transaction."

    And certainly nothing worth the tradeoff.

  • Just waiting for my turn at the DMV.

    @Mrfunkedude back in the old times, my dad would always go on the busiest days.

    He was blind as a bat without his glasses, 20/900 by the old standards.

    While in line, he'd simply memorize the wall eye chart. At his turn he walked up, took off obvious coke bottle lenses and read back whatever line they asked for LOL

    He was just funny about having the 'restriction' on his license. He wasn't about to drive without glasses lol

  • It appears that I'm not the only European cross about the German car lobby...
    pixelpusher220@dmv.communityP pixelpusher220@dmv.community

    @Ruth_Mottram

    The future is EVs. The future structure of current car companies is...problematic.

    An average EV will legitimately last 20 years, probably see a good number past 30. A business that struggles when avg lifespan starts pushing 12-15, isn't capable of that transition.

    Add in the almost complete drop off in maintenance needs and it's a financial death spiral.

    And a problem we need to figure out b/c we need to be in EVs.

    pixelpusher220@dmv.communityP pixelpusher220@dmv.community

    @aud @GayDeceiver I *think* it's somewhat related to the state deciding not to conduct them so the parties are doing it, each hiring their own workers.

    I don't know but read something along those lines

  • You have to decide if you believe there should be international law or not
    pixelpusher220@dmv.communityP pixelpusher220@dmv.community

    @PhoenixSerenity @ekis yep. Purely from a political anthropology angle, China is fascinating. They seemingly have found the magic touch between some economic freedoms while still maintaining central party control. And for long enough to get embedded into western economies almost to the point of catastrophic levels of risk to said economies.

    pixelpusher220@dmv.communityP pixelpusher220@dmv.community

    @PhoenixSerenity @ekis no argument. The same reason the West is learning that having one uber dominant partner isn't ideal, the world economy is about to learn the same thing regarding China.

    Asymmetry is tough to control. Capitalism's chase of the cheapest everything for profit will be it's demise.

    @ekis sadly, I doubt this will be possible.

    The world needs the power players to be willing to submit to international judgement/punishment...often by their adversaries.

    I don't see China or Russia or India ever doing that. We know the US never did and certainly won't for a long time.

    China really is the bear inside the tent - military strength can be bested. Beating an economic power of a country 5 times your size is a fools errand.

  • I’ve been asked on TV hits and interviews lately to explain why decentralized social media is better, especially re: Mastodon.
    pixelpusher220@dmv.communityP pixelpusher220@dmv.community

    @zymurgic @taylorlorenz

    I've taken to calling FB / Twitter / etc 'Social Media' b/c they want you to consume the media they choose

    Fedi is 'Social Networking' b/c the point is interacting with others.

    @taylorlorenz

    It's also good to explain the reverse.

    Would you accept it if Gmail couldn't email Yahoo or Hotmail and you had to have separate accounts for every place you have friends?

    That's what FB / Twitter / Reddit / YT are. Things that can't talk to each other. If you have a friend on YT, you can't follow them from your FB account.

    Fedi allows *all* of them to talk to each other.
