This stuff was quite useful, once I figured out wtf was going on. Even though some of the data is very out of date. I've got a nice template system set up now that makes D&D style stat block pages. I'll start putting in my data next time.

Yeah on windows it's not the X on the window itself...that closes the entire app.
It's the X on the taskbar representation of the window. Which is such a wild choice.

Yeah I have forced myself to sit down and watch this "obisidian for RPGs" video and just doing what he's doing.
That's actually where I got my first complaint about clunkiness from because by default if you make a new vault it's just open...along with the previous one. But on windows if you try to CLOSE it by doing the natural thing of clicking the X button....the entire Obsidian closes.
It took me forever to figure out how to close just one vault.

Obsidian seems to be the de facto tool used by roleplaying gamers, and I see tons of people saying they use tagging and such to group info together, so it probably can do those things....if you know HOW.
Which is where I am right now.

In WikidPad, I used tags for this and it was fine, but the default hierarchical structure meant that you could wind up with weird nesting behaviour.
X is a Y so the Y page appears under X but also Y is related to Z so Z is under Y and yet Z has a connection to X so X is also under Z.
It became a mess quickly.

When it comes to rpg stuff and even worldbuilding, I am all about organization. I want to be able to tag a character with say an organization name X, and then somewhere else be able to go "list up everyone in organization X". And it should just work.

Long ago I started storing my information in a wiki using WikidPad but while it is very flexible and strong, it's also a little TOO much. And of course only useable on desktop.
I need the ability to use complex tagging and searching and grouping and such. It has always seemed like Obsidian was capable of everything I need, but only if you know how to set things up.
And perhaps most frustratingly is that 99% of guides are frickin' videos.

@dzwiedziu I'm not looking for advice at this time. I've tried Obsidian in the past multiple times and abandoned it each time, and now I am sitting down starting from scratch and using a guide. Even so, it's just clunky to use.

Decided to try getting #Obsidian working for all my various #ttrpg crap and #worldbuilding crap. It's so clunky, I don't understand why it's the most popular solution?

This time Stockmart had the organic bread I wanted. Last time I'll ever buy it in Shimokitazawa sadly, but glad I got it.

For our #gaming tonight it's back to #KingdomsOfAmalur and I'm a bit overleveled at this point, a complaint complaint I'm told.
I've gone for a Nightblade build, and am currently level 22 and both ridiculously powerful and squishy as hell.

I had actually planned on not doing much today, but in the end I actually accomplished a not inconsiderable amount.
I'm even failing at doing nothing today.

@sinalana.bsky.social I saw a discussion earlier today, I forget where, where the idea was floated that our very idea of education (relying on memorizing facts and regurgitating) is no longer viable because of the AI menace, so we need to re-think what education means as a whole./

I'm kind of annoyed that the Scrubs reboot feels exactly like the show never ended.

@chad Nothing serious of course. Just noticing the my own toots don't show on my timeline for a few minutes no matter how many reloads I do. And a toot that has favorites/boosts when looked at individually, does not show any such activity when viewed on the timeline, or in notifications. Just quirks, as I said.

@chad Everything alright with the instance update? Or are we still having things adjust in the background?
I am noticing some quirks with my own toots on the timeline, and boosts/favorites not registering some places, but doing so in others.
