  • I like @delta but user experience is far from the one it should because it’s not, and it doesn’t feels native on any platform.

@delta @pancake yeah but remember the "premium" apps all get updated to the latest iOS standards quickly after WWDC, tested on the iOS betas, and ready in the app store the instant the new major iOS release happens.

honestly that sounds like torture to me because of how much Apple changes every major update

@pancake this is one of those situations where I think there should be a competition. One week, build a new client around the core. Best submission wins $1000 or something. Don't care if you vibe code most of it, just make something.

@pancake @delta the core is just a JSON-RPC service with a very approachable API. All you have to focus on really is the UI. If you have the time/skills/interest in pursuing such an experiment the hard parts (backend/crypto/protocols) are already done for you.

  • This is a massively important story.

@akamran @GaryRLundberg Mexico only gets the water from it we allow them to have.

edit: we just bully them for their water usage essentially, we don't completely control the flow AIUI

  • So, funny story.
    feld@friedcheese.usF feld@friedcheese.us
So, funny story. My wife was complaining for the last month or so that she can't see the credit card transactions I do through Apple Wallet anymore. Happened sometime after an update or something, weird.

Later I noticed some changes to shared calendars weren't working -- they never appeared for me. Didn't think much about it really but it was odd. Computers suck, right?

So then last night I somehow lost my phone so I used my wife's phone to do the "Find My Device" feature. Except it wouldn't work, because it said her phone wasn't logged into iCloud. Super weird? So I go into the settings and pull up iCloud and there's a banner at the top about new Terms and Conditions...

I agreed to the T&C, and suddenly everything came back to life. I located my phone (fell under couch), looked at the Wallet on her phone and the transactions started streaming in, I got calendar notifications...

her reply: "I kept saying 'Ask Me Later' because I didn't want to agree to it, I thought we didn't use iCloud anymore"

well, everything on the iPhone run by Apple technically uses iCloud in some way, I just stopped using it for our photos and back those up to our self-hosted Immich server instead lol

  • We should start a rumour that the real reason Gallup isn't doing presidential approval ratings anymore is that Trump's approval ratings have gone negative and a codebase full of unsigned integers is too expensive to fix.

@mhoye I worked for them once, they're heavy Oracle users -- that's why I was acqui-hired when the bought my employer.

When they flew us in to their HQ in Nebraska to see the inner workings of their sanctum and meet the execs, the CEO skipped out on our meeting because he had to fly to DC to have an emergency meeting/dinner with Bush. This would have been around March 2008. Probably so they could discuss the polls. In February 2008, McCain was ahead of Clinton and Obama in the polls, but that flipped in early March.

The truth is more likely that they're corrupt and they were trying to agree on how to "fix" it.

  • Mattermost 11
    feld@friedcheese.usF feld@friedcheese.us
Mattermost 11.x now limits you to 10,000 message history for self-hosted. Doesn't matter how much storage you can afford, they'll just delete the history anyway
