@JoBlakely despite my massive concerns these are heavily used in Austria on bills and invoices - the link can be scanned in your bank app and it makes transfer super easy. Far too easy, with no real validation.

Do you use QR codes or do you avoid them? -
It's been a while since I've done web stuff.@azonenberg I've built one of these, and one thing you may end up needing it is *before* doing the HMAC validation, is to limit by inbound IP, e.g. at firewall or (in my case) haproxy.
https://docs.github.com/en/webhooks/using-webhooks/best-practices-for-using-webhooks#allow-githubs-ip-addresses & use https://api.github.com/meta to populate it.

As the cost for building software is shrinking fast, the cost for running software is going to grow faster, and guess what cost most orgs never planned for.@krisbuytaert that makes sense — a volumetric increase in slop

As the cost for building software is shrinking fast, the cost for running software is going to grow faster, and guess what cost most orgs never planned for.@krisbuytaert I don’t see a significant change in most of those apart from refactoring which is going to balloon, along with fixing issues in production when it turns out that because nobody actually wrote the code, there is nobody who understands it.

As the cost for building software is shrinking fast, the cost for running software is going to grow faster, and guess what cost most orgs never planned for.@krisbuytaert you’re thinking of failure in production then? That type of problem / cost?

As the cost for building software is shrinking fast, the cost for running software is going to grow faster, and guess what cost most orgs never planned for.@krisbuytaert especially now that RAM and storage are 3-5x or even higher.

Fun fact: data centres don't just add a lot of new load to the power grid, they also suddenly remove it without warning, leading to serious fluctuations and grid instability@ketan wow, to "lose" a whole GigaWatt of power is quite something. That must have a severe ripple effect while grid rebalancing struggles to accommodate and settle.

We are now being told we need Digital ID, age verification and KYC to "protect kids" at OS level but the simplest solution is the best one.@nixCraft this is what we’ve done and it seems to work well. No phones til 14yo, screen time requires a tidy room, homework and chores done, and 2x of outside time to compensate.
I guess we aren’t too strict on completing all of the list, but it works out ok.
I always point out to the kids that we don’t have cows to milk at 4am and there’s no fencepost holes to dig, vege garden to deal with, wood to chop, sheep to shear, nor other farm labour which was part of my childhood.
