As the cost for building software is shrinking fast, the cost for running software is going to grow faster, and guess what cost most orgs never planned for.

@krisbuytaert I know, I know! Maintenance!

@krisbuytaert especially now that RAM and storage are 3-5x or even higher.

@dch the hardware cost isn't even relevant.

@krisbuytaert you’re thinking of failure in production then? That type of problem / cost?

@dch I`m talking about the usual operational cost including but not limited to securing, monitoring, backing up, scaling, refactoring, downscaling, upgrading , decomissioning etc .. Writing the software has always been only a small part of the cost.

@krisbuytaert I don’t see a significant change in most of those apart from refactoring which is going to balloon, along with fixing issues in production when it turns out that because nobody actually wrote the code, there is nobody who understands it.

@dch people are going to spend the same budget on "building software" but there's going to be more of it .. So the cost of running it is going to be bigger, ah well it will be ignored and we'll be cleaning up the shit as allways ..

@krisbuytaert that makes sense — a volumetric increase in slop
