(guess what their gender is) -

i wish the tech industry would just collapse already@dragonfi @sabik @eniko the whole think kind of reminds me of this bit of UI research done in the 1980s, that whenever i talk about it here i get a whole bunch of people really mad at me:
keyboard shortcuts don’t save any actual time. But they do make it feel like you’re saving time.
this really upsets the vim people

i wish the tech industry would just collapse already@dragonfi @sabik @eniko i think it does have intent- the prompter’s intent; not any of its own. it seems to do best with problems that look kind of like translation. which is also its limitations; it can’t really do any work you didn’t already do. it can only transform it into a different “language”.

i wish the tech industry would just collapse already@eniko @dragonfi @sabik it’s sort of working like a slot machine. It gets the answer right often enough to erase the time that passed while it gave wrong answers- people don’t realise it woulda been faster to just struggle through the problem themselves- that’s not as fun- therefore feels like it takes longer

i wish the tech industry would just collapse already@eniko it feels like that moment after Wile E. Coyote just ran off a cliff and hasn’t looked down yet
just dragging on for months and months

a new drug comes out that gives you effective immortality for as long as you take it.a new drug comes out that gives you effective immortality for as long as you take it. You don't age, you never grow frail, you stay sparky and young and enthusiastic for as long as you want.
but it also permanently freezes your emotional and intellectual age. You never learn anything, you never get better at relationships, you never grow as a person.

what if you took the billions of dollars being spent on data centres and spent it on UBI instead@punissuer i think i saw that one

what if you took the billions of dollars being spent on data centres and spent it on UBI insteadwhat if you took the billions of dollars being spent on data centres and spent it on UBI instead
then you’s have a whole bunch of people suddenly with all this free time on their hands to make you pictures and answer your weird research questions

The wrong people have imposter syndrome@ebel it’s not imposter syndrome if you’re actually an imposter.

If you have to do or participate in something in order to survive, it's not a privilege, right?@revoluciana i just feel like it’s the final word: do people go around asking gay people how great all that straight passing privilege was?
