Yes, but he is an antagonist, not a villain. He has reasons which might be understandable from his point of view.
And if he didn't exist, the story would be super boring.

What techniques help you write a difficult second act?
I just don't use formulas to write my stories. They might be finde for analysis later one, but I don't work that way.
What techniques do I use to get over a rough patch?
Talk to friends, write scenes non- chronically, write stuff that I know will need heavy editing later on - or just wait for the muse to guide me.

That being possessive is something good in a (male) LI.
I cannot count the toxic love stories I've read that made me think - once she stops adoring him, her days will be numbered. I don't understand why so many romance authors think that is cool.

Knowing when to stop. Not falling into that trap of trying to explain everything and tie every loose thread. A friend once said to me - you need to leave some things to the reader's imagination - and that was perfect advice.
I try my best to stick to that. When a story feels done, I stop - even though I could go on and one and on...

Of course, my tbr is quite long and I so behind on writing reviews that I'm feeling discouraged each time I think about it
