@Natasha_Jay I don't think corporations can get away with the hypocrisy of throwing up a pride flag and simultaneously donating to anti-LGBTQ+ politicians anymore
at least I hope not
I guess it depends how many people with huge follower counts name and shame them

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt Digging up an old statement I made on Reddit:
I'd rather be pandered to one month a year than ignored year round because the people who want me dead are the ones with all the power. -

@Natasha_Jay after completely ignoring the recent agender visibility day, pan visibility day and lesbian visibility week (I'm sure I've missed some)

@wheresalice @Natasha_Jay I honestly say that I'm not a supporter of dedicating anything to specific time period. While spreading awareness is definitely very important, it shouldn't be tied to a specific time period and that time period be exclusive to that one cause. We don't have enough months, weeks and days for every single manner that matters.

@ariarhythmic @Natasha_Jay the last person who really pushed hard on it was fired. Others were let go or left on their own. Personally, I was asked to stop posting so many questions and issues in our managers channel (not all DEI related). In general we've just gotten very corporate-y and it's all about meeting targets and making deals and money and anything beyond that falls on deaf ears.
@bit101 @Natasha_Jay sounds like a job worth looking for alternatives to

@ariarhythmic @Natasha_Jay at this point, the alternative is mostly retirement. And I'm not quite there.

@bit101 @ariarhythmic @Natasha_Jay Talking to bosses is usually useless. Talking to our colleagues and then making demands/suggestions as a collective is much better

@ariarhythmic @narF @Natasha_Jay So, inspired by you all, I reached out to a couple of people in HR (genuinely good people imo) to see if there would be any interest in restarting the DEI group (or whatever we want to call it). Will see...

@bit101 @ariarhythmic @Natasha_Jay HR is not on your side. HR exist to defend the boss and the company. If the company don't want to do it, HR will delay your requests or ignore them. Worst, they might even punish your for speaking about this topic.
Maybe your company have some genuinely nice HR people but those people usually don't stick around. They either find out they are powerless to bring positive changes in the company, or the company gets rid of them.
Of course I hope that your situation will be different, but I'm just warning you based on my experience.
Good luck!

@narF @ariarhythmic @Natasha_Jay perhaps, but it's something. Nobody is doing anything.

@bit101 Do you feel this is an issue that is shared between your colleagues?
