HR exist to defend the boss and the company. If the company don't want to do it, HR will delay your requests or ignore them. Worst, they might even punish your for speaking about this topic.

Maybe your company have some genuinely nice HR people but those people usually don't stick around. They either find out they are powerless to bring positive changes in the company, or the company gets rid of them.

Of course I hope that your situation will be different, but I'm just warning you based on my experience.

Imo it can be a bit of both.
It couldn't happen if leadership was firm in valuing DEI, but an environment like the one we're living in now takes people who are, uh, not doing their own thinking and makes them worse.

I genuinely think it was better when companies were doing the motions of DEI, even if leadership was just doing it because everyone was.
