@Geri Labour Friends of Israel, and other similar organisations, I have no doubt. They may as well get rid of the entire Bible at this rate - why would any deity be encouraging the people to flee, or to fight when there’s no opponent?
This is appalling, and the Museum should be boycotted forthwith. So much of the treasures and items there belong to other civilisations and other countries and they should be returned forthwith.@HarriettMB @Geri
The word "Palestine" appears once in the King James translation of the Bible, but is not found in other translations. So you don't have to worry. It was a European (Roman) term. -
@charlesdelavalleepoussin @Geri For Europeans, conspiracy stories about Jews are like putting on an old comfortable pair of shoes.

The British Museum has removed the word #Palestine from displays about the ancient Middle East following complaints.
Maps and information boards about ancient Egypt and the seafaring Phoenicians labelled the eastern coast of the Mediterranean as Palestine, and some peoples were described as being “of Palestinian descent”
And so the British Museum has decided to remove that word.
Who do you think made those complaints?
@Geri Starmer is a self confessed Zionist. Whilst he probably has no authority to directly effect the change, he sure as hell has the influence. It’s a disgraceful thing to do.

@Geri "Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophir
Rowing home to haven in sunny REDACTED,
With a cargo of ivory,
And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine."
Afraid of a word, they are. I honestly despair.@capnthommo @Geri The imposition of imperial names for conquered territories and the suppression of indigenous names - e.g. substituting "Palestine" for "Phillistine" is a common process, but that doesn't make it accurate.

@Geri@mastodon.online ..UK seems to now have developed a full illness about Palestine with a rash on every face and fever inside almost every brain?
I would have thought that the name "Farage" would have caused something alike.
What is this obsession? Instead of defending an unstable description of ideas about Palestine and recognizing actual facts they seem to put much effort into useless scaffolding to support the feverish Palestine aversion?
Is everybody mad now? -
@charlesdelavalleepoussin @Geri But the historical facts are that "Palestine" was a Roman name for the province that they conquered in the Jewish Wars and was imposed on Judea after the Roman genocide. Also, European gentiles called European Jews "Palestinians" after the middle ages. Trying to rewrite history is Orwellian.

You seem like the person in the room who says "but Hitler was a vegetarian and loved animals".
You appear to demonstrate an immaturity, a naiveté, about the wider context that includes
1. A malevolent group, the UKLFI, pressuring British institutions to make changes in a way that they would not do. The same group that forced a London hospital to be take down childrens art.
2. The ramping up of the genocide of Palestine, its people, culture, its history, its very memory.

Why not do what Ireland is doing?
Ireland to draw up policy on returning historical artefacts to their countries of origin

Thousands of objects acquired while Ireland was part of the British Empire remain in Irish museums

@charlesdelavalleepoussin @Geri You appear to represent a common trend for Europeans to believe that making up conspiracy stories about Jews relieves Europeans of blame for Colonialism and Holocaust.

@Geri The chair of the BM is George Osborne a man I trust. I also throw grand pianos as a hobby

@charlesdelavalleepoussin @Geri You have no idea why they made the decision, you're just making up a story that makes feel angry.
-
@HarriettMB @Geri This has nothing to do with religion but only with historical accuracy. "Palestine" was a Roman word for Judea. It had nothing to with with modern Palestinians and, in fact, European gentiles used to call Jews in Europe "Palestinians" until they murdered most of them.

Oh but the UKLFI have admitted they did it.
It's on their own website.
You need to grow up.
British Museum Reviewing Palestine Terminology in Galleries after Audience Testing
