    A big part of the reason the world is in its current predicament, is that a lot of US white people *on the left* still can't acknowledge how corrosive and harmful the DEI pushback was and still is. They also can't acknowledge that the anti-Black pushback started before Trump came into office. They can't acknowledge their part in it.

    Again, white people *on the left* laughed when Elon fired almost all the Twitter employees and ended all the Black ERGs. Up until 2024, People were still asking me "Why don't you like Elon?🤡"

    There was no outcry when all the DEI and inclusion professionals were pushed out of tech and higher education. Black journalists being fired caused no widespread panic. There was a lot of "I don't talk politics!"

    But then DOGE did the same to scientists in general, and now there was panic. Kimmel getting fired raised more outcry than every Black journalist firing combined.

    Saying that 300,000 Black women were fired in this anti-DEI pushback, has no real impact on them. They can't feel that empathy for Black folk. Being anti-woke is "just an opinion."

    Now I see daily jokes about "Woke is back!" No. Woke never left. I've been Black this whole time. The 300,000 Black women fired have been Black this whole time. The Black journalists pushed out of their jobs have been Black this whole time.

          @mekkaokereke spot on. One of the reasons I always differentiate left vs. "Democrat" vs. liberal and why I'm not particularly planted in either of those camps and am often extremely frustrated with their rhetoric and weak approaches to civil/civic issues.

          100x on the exact issues you point out too, one white person is hurt/killed/fired and it's great that it's a galvanizing force, but god dammit if there wasn't a dozen not white folks hurt/killed/fired/hung/murdered before that which received silence in media and likewise.

          Fuckin' sickens me! ✊🏻

            I keep talking and screamin' about this and pointing it out and trying to do my part to remedy this obliviousness and will continue, but just gotta say, talk about an endless frustration trying to get it across. Every victory is so small it often seems insurmountable to continue, but fuck it I do in spite of that.

            Anyway, solidarity, keep advocating the good fight, I'm gonna keep pushing and trying til my dying breath!

              @mekkaokereke I'm surprised anyone at NYT would consider what's happened to trans folks as a "negative impact", but that's before I remember when most folks talk of trans people, they're mostly thinking of women like Hunter Schafer

                100% true

                It is easier to erase an acronym. But there are real people affected by the push against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

                Being against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, being bothered by it, being oblivious or dismissive about why it is necessary, is being maga.

                  @mekkaokereke

                  civil rights progress in the 60s, such as it was, was a wake up call for a large part of the US that their aim to finally win the civil war wasn't working. 70s politics tested the waters and used things like vietnam and communism as a litmus test of that generation's "woke". by the reagan era, they had a plan. they've been executing on it ever since and mostly it's been unimpeded by the "left" or "liberals" because it forced them to confront the truths of US history since inception. if those of us not willing to be part of a fascist dictatorship aren't ready to confront that full and unvarnished history and examine past failures, we're going to lose.

                        @mekkaokereke

                        I have two completely separate attitudes towards DEI, one regarding the blood and soil racist hate that denounces it and on the other side of this, the fact that DEI allows white liberal “left” to ignore economic issues. The Democrats quite notably gave up on working class people universally thanks to Bill Clinton.

                        The truly leftist point of view focuses on economic and political solidarity of the rank and file of society.

                          @mekkaokereke

                          To give a small hint about this why it’s so important consider that unions in the 1930s were racist assholes until they learned that they had to include people of color/women and that solidarity that kind of inclusion that kind of equality dismantled a great deal of racism.

                          Corporations love DEI because nobody questions the hideous exploitation they inflict on all of us on workers and consumers. They’re happy hiring women and blacks into structure of exploitation.

                            On top of this political system can distract itself with a lot of performative bullshit while 90% of the population is having trouble making ends meet no matter what size shape, gender or skin tone they have.

                            The problem is the super rich and the corporations who have deliberately worked to seize the means of government.

                            The flaming fire of hate that they benefit from, is the thing we need to overcome.

                            Minnesota is an exemplary here. It is something like what we need.

                                  So the NYT is giving it a clearly positive impact to forcibly exclude people, i.e. racist D.E.I. shit? Also Trans issues no impact whatsoever and still on the positive? Surely German third Reich fascists didn't care either, putting 'em in camps...

                                  Well... I've got BIG NEWS!

                                  »At least 10 columnists and writers of the NYT are nothing but utter trash.«

                                  Aside - they spelled “corruption“ completely wrong, because it's not spelled “deregulation“ and they would only do that because they're just as corrupt.

                                      It’s all the miserable fucking super rich. Beyond a certain level of wealth and baby on the way towards it before they step over the threshold to morbid wealth the people that go down that path have to choose to hate their customers and their employees. The desire to exploit others to profit is the disease.

                                        as a high level narrative, that is true, but it is hard to act on it.
                                        Analyzing the mechanisms that enable the control makes change actionable though.

                                        e.g.
                                        "a company/boss has the power to control workers"

                                        ...and its multifacetted what that means in practice, but you can also rephrase that into pointing out the single dominant underlying enabeling mechanic instead:

                                        "a company/boss can stop paying people"

                                        ...agreeing on the latter allows aligning actions
